教育是實現其他諸多可持續發展目標的關鍵。世界各國對可持續教育都非常重視。瑞典通過立法要求瑞典高校開展可持續發展教育;加拿大曼尼託巴省要求以可持續發展教育重新定位學校教育;德國正式指定2500個項目成為可持續發展教育的官方項目;日本將可持續發展教育正式納入國家課程標準。目前,全球有超過70個國家已明確表示將支持開展可持續發展計劃。

1998年,在聯合國教科文組織中國國家委員會的大力推進下,中國開始了可持續教育的實驗,其核心是通過對人的教育促進國家的可持續發展。中國的可持續發展教育強調將可持續發展意識和行動貫穿於學校管理、教學和建設的整體性活動中,引導青少年樹立熱愛大自然、保護地球家園的高尚情操和培養他們對經濟、社會發展負責任的精神。培養學生可持續發展的意識,學會如何從自己開始,從身邊的小事做起,以實際行動參與校園環境管理、宣傳文明行為,通過學生帶動家庭、社區、公民廣泛參與保護環境的行動,從而使學生的行為養成一種自然的習慣。

印度普拉塔姆混合學習計劃

2015年9月,世界各國領導人在一次具有歷史意義的聯合國峰會上通過了2030年可持續發展議程,該議程涵蓋17個可持續發展目標、169個具體目標,於2016年1月1日正式生效。各國將致力於消除一切形式的貧窮、實現平等和應對氣候變化,同時確保沒有一個人掉隊。

The United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development covers 17 goals, the fourth of which is 「quality education」, namely: Ensure inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning.
Under this major goal, there are 13 targets, the seventh of which is 「By 2030, ensure that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including, among others, through education for sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship and appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture’s contribution to sustainable development」.

Countries Took Education for Sustainable Development Seriously
Education is the key to achieve other sustainable development goals. Countries all over the world have taken sustainable education seriously. Sweden governments request Swedish universities to carry out sustainable development education through legislation. In Canada, Manitoba school authorities request education system be re-positioned based on sustainable development concepts. German governments has officially designated 2500 official programme for sustainable development education. Japan has formally incorporated sustainable development education into national curriculum standards. Currently, more than 70 countries in the world have made it clear that they will support the education for sustainable development.

Sustainable School Activities
In 1998, with the vigorous promotion by the Chinese National Committee of UNESCO, China began the experiment of sustainable education with the main purpose of promoting the country’s sustainable development through education for people. China's education for sustainable development emphasizes the integration of sustainable development awareness and actions with school management, teaching and construction, guiding young people to establish a noble sentiment of loving nature and protecting the earth, and cultivating the spirit of responsibility for economic and social development. Pratham’s Hybrid Learning Programme
Founded in 1995, Pratam is one of the largest non-governmental organizations in India. It is committed to improving the quality of education in India by complementing the school work. In 2015, Pratam launched its digital initiative, the Pratham’s Hybrid Learning Programme. It's a community driven approach, serving more than 90,000 children aged from 10 to 14 in about 1,000 villages in India.

About China
Shenzhen Promoting Sustainable Development Capabilities of Young People
Shenzhen just established the China Sustainable Development Capability Research Center, which is one of the global collaborative programmes of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. With its mission of promoting the sustainable development capability construction of Chinese young people and the public, the programme will explore the establishment of a complete set of standard certification system and output channels for the cultivation of comprehensive sustainable development capability. It will implement the programme in multiple channels. The study and evaluation of sustainable development capacity will help the majority integrate the concept of sustainable development into their personal development strategies, and provide talents and resources for comprehensively promoting the implementation and practice of sustainable development goals.

On January 1, 2016, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including 169 targets, of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development — adopted by world leaders in September 2015 at an historic UN Summit — officially came into force.
