Last Tuesday was the most anticipated opening day of a new term for Yin Shirui, a high school student in Ganzhou, in the eastern Chinese province of Jiangxi.
對於尹詩瑞來說，上一周二是最讓人期待的新學期開學日，她是一個中國東部江西省贛州的高中學生。
It came about two months later than usual because of the coronavirus outbreak. For final-year high school students in nine mainland provinces, last week marked their return to campus after an extended winter holiday and weeks of online learning at home.
因為新冠疫情的爆發，導致開學日的到來推遲了整整兩個月。對於9個省份的高三學生來說，在經過寒假的延長與長久時間的在家線上學習之後，他們在上周終於回到了學校。
China announced in January that schools would close, with students across China starting online learning in February and March. Final-year students in Heilongjiang, Jilin, Henan, Anhui, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hainan and Hunan provinces and Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region have now returned to school.
在一月的時候，中國宣布關閉學校，隨之而來二月與三月，學生開始了在家線上學習。在黑龍江，吉林，河南，安徽，福建，江西，海南，湖南以及廣西壯族自治區的高三學生現在已經開學回校。
「I don’t like learning on the internet at all. On most of the day, I stayed at home alone from morning until late in the afternoon, with both my parents going out to work,」 Yin, 17, said.
17歲的尹說道：」我完全不喜歡在線上學習。在大部分的日子裡面，我的父母都出去工作了，只剩下我一個人從早上待到傍晚。「
「I am not interested in what is taught in online class since the teachers there do not target me or my class, but target the whole grade of my school.」Yin said she was also anxious because her score ranking in her grade dropped greatly compared with two months ago, from being in the top 20 among 1,200 students to top 100.
」自從老師的教學不僅只是教我或者我的班級，而是在教整個年級之後，我對於線上課堂就完全沒有動力了。「尹還提到，她現在感到非常焦慮，與兩個月之前相比，她在年級的成績排名下降了非常多，在1200名學生的前二十名掉到了前一百名。
「I was looking forward to the opening of the semester so that I could get more specific instructions from my teachers to improve my scores,」 she said. Yin said when she and her classmates met in their classroom on Tuesday, they were so excited that they chatted non-stop during the class break.
」我非常起到開學，這可以讓我從老師那裡得到更多學習成績上的幫助，「她說到。尹說到當她和她的同學在上周二開學時，她們都非常興奮，並且在課間休息時總有聊不完的話題。
「It’s good that we can go back to school to study now. But the bad thing is that we have to wear masks all the time [at school],」 she said. Like Yin, final-year students in high schools are under high pressure to prepare for the gruelling National Higher Education Entrance Examination, known as gaokao in China.
」現在能回到學習真的是非常棒。然而不好的是，我們在學校裡面也要一直戴著口罩，「她說道。像尹一樣的高三學生，基本都會承受大壓力，因為他們要全力以赴準備接下來的普通高等學校招生全國統一考試，也就是國內俗稱的高考。
The test is regarded as the most important examination in the country. This year, the pandemic forced the authorities to hold it one month later, on July 7 and 8, marking the first time it has been delayed . Authorities estimate more than 10.7 million students will sit this year’s gaokao, which can make or break a student’s future. Many of them have said online learning has made their life more difficult.
這場考試在國內被認為是最重要的考試。在今年，疫情導致考試推遲到7月7日和8日，整整一個月，這是史上第一次被延遲的高考。官方估計大概今年大概會有1070萬學生參加高考，這將會影響學生的前途。很多的學生都反映到，這場在線學習讓他們覺得更加困難。
Yin said that in the past month, she has had several tests online. For objective questions, students make choices on the computer; while for subjective questions, they write down answers on paper, take photos of the paper and upload it online.
尹表示，在上個月，她已經在線測試過幾次。對於客觀題學生可以在電腦上做選擇，而對於主觀題，學生會把解答寫在紙上，並拍照上傳到網絡上。
But for Xie Yiwei, a final-year student from an elite high school in Huangpu district in Shanghai, there were no tests at all, which made her concerned because it was difficult to assess her progress in class. Students in Shanghai must wait another two weeks until April 27 to go back to school, in keeping with the municipal government’s decision.
但是對於謝依維來說，身處在上海市黃浦區的高校，哪裡卻完全沒有測試，這使她非常地擔心，因為她很難了解自己在班級裡面的位置。在上海的學生，必須要等多兩個星期，一直到4月27日才能回到學校。
Xie had hoped to return to school sooner as she wanted to have more interaction with her teacher and her classmates.「It’s so boring to study all day and all night. I even did not leave my home for a whole week or two,」 she said.
謝非常希望能快點回到學校並且能與老師和同學有更多的交流。」全日夜的學習真的非常無聊。我基本有整整一到兩個星期沒有離開過家了，「她說到。
In a normal school day, Xie would spend half an hour walking from home to school, take physical exercise classes twice a week and often play badminton with her peers. But over the past two months she has barely had any physical exercise.
在平常的回學日，謝上學要花半小時，並且每周會有兩節體育課，經常與她的同學打羽毛球。但在過去的兩個月裡面，她基本沒有做過任何體育運動。
Luo Xiaofei, a resident in Hezhou in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, said his son, a final-year student, told him he could not learn anything at home. Luo said his son usually achieved only 420 from a total 750 marks in simulation tests at the end of last year.
羅曉飛，是廣西壯族自治區賀州的當地居民，他高三的兒子告訴他在家裡面很難學習。羅說到，他的兒子在上一年期末考試中，對於750分滿分只拿到了420分。
「His score is hardly enough for universities』 enrolment benchmark. I am really worried about him,」 he said.「He locked himself in his room and seldom talked to us. I hope he can return to school as soon as possible.」
」他的成績很難達到大學的入學標準。我真的非常擔心他，「她說道。」他把自己鎖在房間裡面，並且不與我們談。我非常希望他能儘快回到學校。「
