下面這段對話就是上一篇文章的最後一段對話。我們來看這段對話中出現的幾個短語，既有俚語，也有俗語，還有習慣搭配。
A: After such a stressful week I’m really looking forward to our Friday outing.
B: Are we still going to the same place on Patrick Street?
A: Sure, why not? It’s a great place to relax. Inexpensive drinks, appetizers of all kinds and
congenial friends. What more could you want to recharge your battery?
B: How about winning the lottery?
對話中出現的Friday outing, 若對英美文化不了解的話，一般會理解為「周五郊遊」，實際上，Friday outing在這兒相當於TGIF(Thank Goodness, it’s Friday.)的意思，表示一星期工作了五天，終於可以放飛自己了，所謂『放飛』，對西方人而言就是「放鬆」(relax)。也就是三五好友一起去酒吧聚聚或找個地方娛樂自己，用英美人的話語就是recharge your battery(充充電)，所以，這段對話中也出現了recharge your battery這個短語。對話中的congenial friends的意思為「志趣相同」、「趣味相同」或「志同道合」，也可延申理解為「三觀一致」，當然若該短語被用作貶義詞理解時，也可翻譯為「臭味相同」。
從上面的對話，我們接觸到中學課本沒涉及到的一些英語俗語、俚語或一些固定搭配，而這些俗語、俚語和固定搭配中大部分詞語恰恰又是我們學過的，老師在關注課本所學詞語之餘，若在課堂上靈活運用原汁原味的英語日常用語、對話或相應的補充英語原文讀物的話，既能滿足學生對英語的學習需求，同時又能提高他們對英語的興趣。
下列幾個短語，都是我們在課本學過的常用單詞組成的，你真得能理解這些短語的真正內涵嗎？

上面第一個簡短對話中的top banana的意思是「頭牌喜劇演員」，另外，top banana還有「主要人物」和「領導人」的含義。如：Who is your top banana in your company? (請問貴公司的老闆是誰？)
第二個簡短對話中的torch songs的意思為「傷感歌曲」或「失戀歌曲」，而不是「火炬歌曲」。由此，可知，除了平時的課堂教學之外，作為英語教師要鼓勵學生多閱讀英語原文作品，多看一些英美影視節目，更要鼓勵學生多用英語交流，只有這樣才能從真正意義上提高學生英語理解能力。
