晚上好，繼續回到經濟學人中國版塊佳句賞析第8期。
本次賞析文本來自於最新一期20171028經濟學人中國版塊，本期中國版塊只有一篇文章 A leadership reshuffle, 文章過於敏感，主要講述十九大Politburo各位Standing Committee Members的背景，有人稱，這期文章的標題應該稱之為「封神榜」，還是很貼切，哈哈。
話不多說，我們一起看看本期中有哪些精彩的表達。
1.five-yearly
ON OCTOBER 25th, one day after the close of a five-yearly congress of the Chinese Communist Party, the president,the prime minister and five lesser-known apparatchiks stepped onto a red carpet in Beijing’s Great Hall of the People and onto the world’s stage.
這裡主要注意一個表達："五年一次的"這一結構，"five-yearly".在雪人社第3季中，我們也讀到過類似的表達： quinquennial [kwɪŋ'kwenɪəl]
在口譯中我們經常會碰到比如 「今天我們共聚一堂，慶祝一年一度的傳統佳節」，除了用「annual」,還可以用「yearly」, 這裡「five-yearly」五年一次的，算是一個很好的拓展。
其他類似結構表達：
biennial 兩年一次的
triennial 三年一次的
quadrennial 四年一次的
2. heap praise on/upon
Party leaders have heaped extravagant praise on the ill-defined Xi Jinping Thought since he introduced the idea
"heap"作為名詞的時候意思為「一堆」，作為動詞來講表示「堆積」，所以「heap praise on/upon」則表示「對大加讚賞」，中間加入extravagant進一步強調程度之深。
同時，英文中也有heap criticism on/upon , 表示「對.批評」；
3. toe the line
Communists are supposed to toe the party line anyway.
"toe"在英文中表示「腳趾」，作為動詞表示「墊著腳尖走」，"toe the line" 字面意思為「沿著線墊著腳尖走」，不敢越雷池一步，形容「嚴守規則，服從命令。」
英文中有一個與「toe」有關的短語，「keep oneself on the toe」,表示「保持警覺」；
4. poke
As party chief in Guangdong from 2007 to 2012, he was part of the great 「cake debate」. He argued that market reforms should be used to make the economic cake bigger for everyone, a poke at statists who emphasised dividing the cake more fairly.
這段話主要講的是當時引人關注的蛋糕理論，一方認為蛋糕要做大，另一方認為蛋糕應該更加公正地平均分配。
這裡poke一詞非常形象，「poke」一般表示「戳」「捅」，既可以作為名詞，也可以作為動詞。這裡當做名詞，形象生動地體現出對「計劃主義者」的諷刺。
英文中又兩個與poke有關的俗語，「poke and pry」 表示「多管閒事」，「better than a poke in the eye」 表示「不幸中的萬幸」，事實上情況已經很糟糕。
5. prelude
That does not preclude Mr Xi from naming a younger successor later in his term.
"prelude"一般作為「前奏，序曲」，名詞使用居多，這裡動詞用法，意為「暗示，預示」。
與prelude相近的詞：interlude插曲
6. foist on
Mr Hu and Mr Jiang had to work with successors who had been foisted on them by party elders.
"foist sth. on/upon"表示「把強加給」，「硬塞給.」這句話信息量太敏感，我們會心一笑就好了。
想起一句中文經常提到的俗語：己所不欲，勿施於人。總理記者會中曾經出現過類似的譯文：
one should not impose on others what he himself does not desire.
這裡impose也可以換成foist;
7. take a knock
The notion of hiding one’s capacities has taken another knock.
"knock" 本意為「敲打」，也有「打擊」之意，這裡「take another knock」表示「遭受損失，蒙受損失」之意。類似的短語有「take a hit」
這句話中提到的「hide one's capacity」完整的說法其實是「hide one's capacity, bide one's time」 韜光養晦，Dengxiaoping同志其實還有後面半句「never take the lead」 永不爭先。
8. merit
A commentary published online by People’s Daily, the party’s flagship newspaper, said Mr Xi’s thinking merited 「the attention of the entire world」.
"merit"作為名詞講表示「優點，價值，好處」，反義詞「demerit」, 但是此處「merit」作為動詞，表示「deserve」,"應該，值得"。
談到「merit」這個詞，英文中有很多的表達與之有關，比如「merit pay」績效工資，「merit student」三號學生， 「merit-based scholarship」優秀獎學金。
