今天的文章是想跟大家分享跟身體部位、重量和動作相關的隱喻表達。
🌟跟身體部分相關的隱喻。
📍這些都是原本表示身體的名詞動詞化的用法。
🍃Face:
▶️ face (up to) the facts:面對現實
🌰：You're never going to run in the Olympics. It's time you faced up to the facts.
▶️ face the music: 接受批評
🌰：If we do nothing to curb this pollution, I guarantee we will face the music in the future.
🍃Shoulder:
▶️ shoulder the responsibility 這個大家很熟悉了，「承擔責任」
▶️ shoulder the blame 也是表示「承擔（不好的）責任」
🌰：Although others were also responsible for the problem, Sue decided to shoulder the blame.
🍃 Foot:
▶️ foot the bill: 這個是比較地道的用法，表示「付帳、買單」
🌰：Choose what you like from the menu - the company is footing the bill.
（下次出去吃飯，可以不用說pay the bill，而說foot the bill了）
🍃Head:
▶️ head a team: 領導一個小組、一支隊伍
🌰：Jo heads a team working on crime prevention.
📍這些是身體部位的名詞組成的詞組。
🍃Toes：
▶️keep someone on their toes：「讓某人踮起腳走路」，表示「讓某人保持警惕、隨時準備行動」。
🌰：Having three sons under the age of five keeps Janaon her toes.
🍃hand：
▶️go hand in hand with：表示「息息相關、同時進行、相伴而生」
🌰：Unemployment goes hand in hand with social unrest.
🌟跟重量相關的隱喻。
🍃 Heavy/weighty：除了表示「重」以外，還會表示「嚴重的」「困難的」。
🌰：heavy responsibility：重大責任
a heavy burden：重擔
a heavy book：除了可以表示「一本很重的書」外，還可以表示「這本書的內容很難」。
weighty matters/problems：棘手的事情/問題
🍃 Light：除了表示「輕」以外，還可以表示「輕鬆的」「不嚴肅的」。
🌰：light reading：表示閱讀的內容比較淺薄。
a light heart：表示這個人「無憂無慮的」。
light fingers：表示這個人「手腳不乾淨、有偷竊的習慣」。
🌟跟動作有關的隱喻。
我們來做一個簡單的練習，來找一下下面哪些是隱喻吧！
James did a lot of partying in his final year and ran into difficulties with his course. his father was hopping mad when he only just managed to get his degree. however, when he left university he walked straight into a job in an excellent company. Some people jumped to the conclusion that this was because he's started going out with the Managing Director's daughter. His mother worried that, if their relationship hit the rocks, he would run into trouble at work too.
答案：
run into difficulty: 遇到困難
hop mad：氣得跳腳
walk straight into a job：輕易找到工作
hit the rocks：觸礁，搞砸
📍我們很經常可以遇到這樣的表達，但要注意這是informal的表達，不適宜用在正式的學術寫作上。
