高考英語外刊閱讀越來越成為學生得高分的瓶頸。從2017-2020年的上海高考英語的外刊的選擇來看，大量的外刊閱讀給學生的帶來巨大的應試困境。如下表所示，英美的主流的外刊成為高考英語的外刊的主要來源。

由上表可以看出，在2017年1月到2020年6月的上海8次高考英語試卷中，從選取的48篇文章來源分析看，英國的《衛報》佔據5篇文章，佔比為10.4%。這5篇外刊中的文章，其中由3篇是閱讀理解C和1篇完形填空和1篇小貓釣魚。
