between...and...短語在GMAT中常常拿來和among進行比較，區別是非常明顯的：
between and表達在二者之間
among表達在三者以以及以上
分析一道真題：
Carbon dioxide, which traps heat in the atmosphere and helps regulate the planet’s surface temperature, is constantly being exchanged between the atmosphere on the one hand and the oceans and terrestrial plants on the other.
A.exchanged between the atmosphere on the one hand and the oceans and terrestrial plants on the other
B.exchanged, on the one hand, between the atmosphere and the oceans and terrestrial plants, on the other
C.exchanged between, on the one hand, the atmosphere, with the oceans and terrestrial plants, on the other（between and是固定搭配看到with直接排除）
D.exchanged, on the one hand, among the oceans and terrestrial plants, and the atmosphere, on the other
E.exchanged among the oceans and terrestrial plants on the one hand and the atmosphere on the other
本題中區分主要是between x and y還是用among x and y呢？本題比較難的問題在於，這裡的y又是一組小並列，所以相當於是between x and（y1+y2），還是among x and（y1+ y2）呢？
這道題有的學生如果比較魯莽，就會認定這是x、y1、y2三個元素所以用among.但是實際上作者的意思是「二氧化碳」在「大氣」和 「（海洋和陸地植物）」這二者之間進行互換。並不是三個元素之間的互換。那麼有的學生一定會問我：「我讀不懂意思啊？我怎麼知道作者是這個意思呢？我就是不懂你咬我。」
好的侯老師又要發揮學生讀不懂如何做對的題的大法了——
那假設我們是三者之間在互換，那麼我們的表達應該寫成：「among x,y1 and y2」，而不是among x and y1 and y2。
作者多加了一個連詞and就是要分開二個意群，作者想要的是among x and （y1 and y2），而且作者為了讓讀者區分開，還用on the one hand插在了 x的後面：x on the one hand and（y1+y2）on the other。出題人想的是，我都這樣了你還看不出來那我就真的一口老血吐出來……
另外一個問題是關於between...and...還要和from to進行區分。比如我用溫度計測量了今天的氣溫：
The thermometer read between 1 and 10 degrees.
The thermometer read from 1 to 10 degrees.
二句話的區別是什麼呢？
如果用between and表達是溫度是任意落在1度到10度這個範圍內，比如早上1度、中午10度、晚上3度，溫度是任意在這個範圍內波動的。但是如果用from to表達是從早上到晚上，溫度是逐漸從1度上升到10度的，所以這個意思不符合常理，所以在GMAT中from to也往往因為這個問題出錯。

直接比較DE選項，就可以看出這個溫度不是從小到大的上升，而是任意一個數值的不是規律上升的，所以排除D選項。同理自己來體會下OG這道題吧~
