A kid stood on a roof ridge chewing bits of old thatch when a prowling wolf passed by below, looking for a meal.
"Hello, wolf," said the kid. "You're looking very downcast this morning. Are you looking for a slug or a fat caterpillar you can gobble up with those big ugly teeth? They're fallen out, did you say? Then perhaps you can chase some old she-cat from her milk bowl."
The wolf looked up.
"Kid, " he said mildly, "get on with your nibbling of old straws and be thankful that for once your giddy head is emptier than my belly. You talk bravely up there on the roof top but down on the ground you would soon learn to treat your betters with respect. Take care to keep out of my way when we are on the same level!"
It is easy to sound brave when you are not in danger.
