「欲速則不達」，出自《論語》（The Analects of Confucius），意思是「過於性急圖快，反而不能達到目的（The faster one tried to finish, the longer it seemed to take him.）」，可以譯為「more haste, less speed」。
與英文習語「haste makes waste」意思相近，表示「rushing through a task often creates problems or extra work」。
例句：
欲速則不達，你得一步一步地幹。
Haste makes waste. You have got to do it step by step.
A: 趕緊把我的車修好。
A: Hurry up and get my car fixed.
B: 別催我了，欲速則不達。
B: Don't rush me. Haste makes waste.
「班門弄斧」，意思是「在魯班門前舞弄斧子（show off one's proficiency with the axe before Lu Ban， the master carpenter）」。比喻在行家面前賣弄本領，不自量力（show off in the presence of an expert；be conceited），與英文習語「teach one's grandmother (how) to suck eggs」意思相近。魯班是中國古代傑出的土木工程師和木匠（outstanding civil engineer and carpenter），他被尊稱為土木建築鼻祖、木匠鼻祖。He is always telling the director how to run the business that's like teaching his grandmother to suck eggs.Don't teach your grandmother to suck eggs. Bob has been playing tennis for years.「重蹈覆轍」，字面意思是「重新走上翻過車的老路（ follow the tracks of an overturned cart）」，「轍」表示「車輪輾過的痕跡（ the track of a wheel）」。比喻不吸取教訓，再走失敗的老路，可以翻譯為「recommit the same error」，「follow the same old disastrous road」。常用於勸說、希望和警告的場合。One should learn from past mistakes so as to avoid falling into the same old trap again.People wanted to know how they had blundered into war, and how to avoid it in future.「譁眾取寵」，漢語成語，意思是以浮誇的言行迎合大眾，騙取大眾的信賴和支持（court people's favour by saying something impressive; gain notoriety by shocking statements）。含貶義，形容輕浮好虛榮。The speaker played to the gallery by indulging in vulgar jokes.The report criticizes the newspaper for sensationalism.
「竹籃打水一場空」，成語，又作竹籃打水（draw water with a bamboo basket ─ all in vain），比喻白費力氣，沒有效果，勞而無功（work hard but to no avail；a fruitless attempt）。到頭來，竹籃打水一場空。
「此地無銀三百兩」，字面意思是「No 300 taels of silver buried here」，比喻一個人想要把事情隱瞞掩飾，結果反而暴露（A guilty person gives himself away by conspicuously protesting his innocence），可以翻譯為「a very poor lie which reveals the truth」。你說這話不是此地無銀三百兩嗎！
