我們今天來講一下whatever, whatever有兩個用法，一是引導名詞性從句（如主語從句、賓語從句、表語從句），二是用於引導讓步狀語從句。
意為"無論什麼;不管什麼",連接賓語從句、主語從句。如:
They eat whatever they can find. 他們找到什麼就吃什麼。(定語從句)
Whatever she did was right. 她做的一切都是對的。(主語從句)
意為"無論什麼樣的"。應當注意, 此用法的whatever必須同其被修飾的詞一起放在從句前引導從句。如:
I can do whatever work I can find.我可以做我能找到的任何工作。
Whatever difficulties we meet, we can work them out.無論遇到什麼困難，我們都能解決它們。
這兩個詞的意思不同, whatever意為"無論什麼;凡是……的事物"; whichever意為"無論哪個;無論哪些"。此外,whichever後也可以接一個名詞,當然,在一定的語境中,與whichever連用的名詞有時可以省略。如:
You should wear whichever dress suits you best. 什麼衣服最適合你穿,你就應該穿什麼。
Whichever of you comes first will get a prize. 無論你們中間哪一個先到，都會得到獎品。
whatever與no matter what的區別：no matter what 只能引導狀語從句,但whatever既可引導狀語從句,還可引導名詞從句。
Don’t trust him, no matter what he says.無論他說什麼，都別信。
No matter which dictionary you want to buy, I'll pay for it.無論你想買哪個字典我都會付款的。
College students are seen doing whatever work they can find. 我們可以看到, 只要有工作，大學生們什麼都幹。 (名詞性從句)
Don’t lose heart whatever difficulties you meet. 不管遇到什麼困難都不要灰心。(狀語從句)
whatever還可用於加強語氣，相當於what ever, what on earth等。如：
Whatever is the matter? 這是怎麼回事?
Whatever does he mean? 他到底是什麼意思?
Whatever從句有時可以省略。如：
Whatever your argument, I shall hold to my decision. 不管你怎樣爭辯，我還是堅持自己的決定。
