今天和朋友聊到個話題，感慨某人真是不撞南牆不回頭啊，友人問："誒，你說這句話，用英語該怎麼說呢？"
怎麼說？嗯，且聽譚老師跟你細細道來~~
1.Brick
[brik] n.
磚，磚塊
hit a brick wall 倒非常貼切漢語中的「頭撞南牆」
❶ After that my career just seemed to hit a brick wall.
在那之後我的事業似乎就陷入了困境。
❷ The discussions in Brussels hit a brick wall.
在布魯塞爾進行的商談進展受阻礙。
***make bricks without straw
做無米之炊、強人所難; 要馬兒跑，又不給馬兒吃草
該短語的字面意思是「做無草之磚」，該短語源於《聖經•出埃及記》(Exodus) 第5章第6、7、8節：
That same day Pharaoh gave this order to the slave drivers and foremen in charge of the people: 『You are no longer to supply the people with straw for making bricks; let them go and gather their own straw. But require them to make the same number of bricks as before; don't reduce the quota.』
（由於摩西要帶以色列人離開埃及，法老非常生氣，於是怒遷於其他的以色列人。法老命令督工不給以色列人做磚用的草，還得按時繳磚。）現在人們該短語的引申意義是「做無米之炊、強人所難」。

坐立不安，熱鍋上的螞蟻
❸ He is like a cat on the hot brick, and the result will not bring an end to your promising future.
不要像熱鍋上的螞蟻，結果不會影響到你輝煌的未來。
2.Prick

刺痛, 戳 痛n.刺棒, 刺痛
❶ Her conscience began to prick her.
她受良心的譴責。

不自量力作（最後反而受傷的是你自己）
該短語出自《聖經•使徒行傳》(Acts)第九章，在第八章中提示了掃羅迫害教會；在第九章上帝要讓掃羅轉變歸主。
And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? And he said, Who art thou, Lord?And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.
掃羅行路，將到大馬士革，忽然從天上發光，四面照著他。他就僕倒在地，聽見有聲音對他說，掃羅，掃羅，你為什麼逼迫我。他說，主阿，你是誰。主說，我就是你所逼迫的耶穌。
注意最後一句話it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks漢語是沒有翻譯出來的。其實主說：「我就是你所逼迫的耶穌，你掃羅這樣對待信徒，就像你踢趕牛的刺棒一樣是很痛苦的（主的潛臺詞就是『你這樣對待我的子民，就像是牛在踢刺棒一樣，這不僅是無益的反抗，反而回傷害到自己』）。
❷ If you do not observe the rules and regulation, what you are doing is kicking against the pricks.
你不遵守規章制度，你所做的無疑是不自量力（最終受傷的還不是你自己）。
prick作口語時，是粗俗下流俚語; =penis =dick（漢語拼音首字吧JB）
3.Hick
[hik]n.
鄉巴佬; 土包子adj. 鄉下的；不懂世故的
❶ a hick town.
一座鄉村市鎮
4.Rick
[rik] n.
乾草堆, 草垛
（乾草、稻草之類為保護不受天氣影響時被覆蓋或蓋頂的）
記憶策略
要作泥磚，就需要準備成堆的稻草作草筋。
❶ to pile into ricks
堆成草垛
rick 作動詞時，指輕度扭傷 (=sprain)
❷ to rick one's ankle, wrist, back
扭傷足踝、手腕、背.
5.Trick

詭計; 竅門, 訣竅
vt.欺騙, 哄騙
掌握了rick, 別忘了trick（詭計）的第二個用法---訣竅; 技巧; 技藝
❶ You can't fool me with that old trick!
你玩弄那種老花招騙不了我!
❷ The trick is to hold your breath while you aim.
竅門就在於瞄準時須屏住呼吸.
❸ I can't open the box is there a trick to it?
這箱子我打不開--有什麼好辦法嗎?
6.Pick

精選,掘, 拾起
比如 pick up，此短語作名詞講時，表示為皮卡車（前面可以載人，後面載貨的小貨車）
Sick adj.生病的
❶ feel sick
嘔吐
quick adj. 趕快的，快點
wick[wik] 蠟燭心;燈心; （某些類型的打火機的）油繩:
❶ trim the wick of a lamp
修剪燈心.
❷ get on sb's wick (口)
= irritate sb. continually
不斷招惹某人.
7.Rickshaw
[ˈrikʃɔ:] n.
黃包車，人力車
（人拉著跑的那種）
❶ ride in a rickshaw
坐人力車.
記住了rickshaw,當然不要忘記了pelican.
