手是人體最重要和靈活的器官之一，今天普特君就來和大家說一說和手有關的英語。
首先來說一下我們的小拇指，它是我們手上最小最細的指頭，英語該怎麼說呢？說到「小」，很多人都會先想到「small」，但是「小拇指」的英語是「little finger」。
little finger: the smallest finger on each hand
I was playing it with my little finger.
我用小拇指玩它。
除此之外，「小拇指」還有一種很可愛的英語表達——「pinkie」。「pinkie」用於美式英語或蘇格蘭英語，它還可以寫成「pinky」，意思都是「小拇指」。
He saves them, losing half of his pinkie finger in the process.
他救了他們，卻在這個過程中失去了半個小拇指。

其中一個特別的點是一枚鑲有大鑽石的小指戒指。
中文裡我們把第四根指頭稱為「無名指」，關於這種叫法的來源有很多說法。有人說是因為它和結婚有關，戴上戒指就從「無名分」變成了「有名分」。也有人說它出自古文《孟子·告子上》：「今有無名之指，屈而不信。」 趙岐註：「無名之指，手之第四指也。蓋以其餘指，皆有名，無名指者，非手之用指也。」
第二根指頭我們稱為「食指」，有一種說法是沒有筷子的時候人們會用這根手指頭嘗味道，所以是「食指」。
英語中每根手指頭也有專屬的名稱，一起來看看有關的表達吧。
①大拇指：thumb /θʌm/
The thorn was embedded in her thumb.
那根刺嵌進了她的大拇指裡。
all thumbs 笨手笨腳
Can you untangle this thread for me? I'm all thumbs today.
你能幫我解開這個線結嗎？我今天手指不靈便。
thumbs down 拇指向下；不贊成，反對
They gave our plan the thumbs down (= they have disagreed with our plan).
他們不贊成我們的計劃。
與之相反的「thumbs up」就是「豎起大拇指；贊成，接受」的意思。
under sb's thumb 在（某人的）支配下
He's got the committee firmly under his thumb - they agree to whatever he asks.
他已牢牢地掌控了委員會——他們同意他提出的任何要求。
thumb through sth 匆匆翻閱，瀏覽
- Have you read the report?
- Well, I thumbed through it quickly while I was eating breakfast.
- 你看過報告了嗎？
- 嗯，我在吃早飯時匆匆翻閱過。
有時候我們會在一些美劇或者電影裡看到有人在路邊伸手搭免費便車，英式英語裡可以說「thumb a lift」，美式英語裡可以說「thumb a ride」。
We thumbed a lift to London.
我們搭便車去了倫敦。
②食指：index finger/pointer finger/forefinger
The pieces of soap were no longer than my forefinger.
那塊肥皂都沒有我的食指長。
③中指：middle finger
Sensation has thus been relocated from the middle finger to the forefinger.
感覺因此從中指轉移到食指。
④無名指：ring finger
This would mean that the operator has to move up his index and his ring finger which is not convenient and almost impossible to hold for long time.
這意味著操作者必須向上移動他的食指和無名指，這既不方便也不可能長時間堅持。
說完了手指頭，我們再來說說腳指頭的英語。五個腳指頭都可以統稱為「toe」。
toe: any of the five separate parts at the end of the foot
大腳趾：big toe
二三四腳趾：the second toe, the third toe, the fourth toe
小腳趾：little toe
I stubbed(hit) my toe on the edge of the bed.
我的腳趾撞到了床沿。
on your toes 忙個不停，永不懈怠
I work with people who are half my age so that keeps me on my toes.
我和只有我年齡一半大的人一起工作，所以一刻也不能鬆懈。
toe the line 服從；聽從
Ministers who wouldn't toe the party line were swiftly got rid of.
不願遵從該政黨方針的部長們被立刻免職。
