After several years of dealing with the expat community in China, I』ve noticed a rather odd trend. It's bizarrely common to meet angry, white English teachers (mostly American, but not exclusively) who have wolfed down Trump’s anti-immigrant messages whole without the slightest sense of irony, considering their own situation.
It normally starts out harmlessly enough - you're having a harmonious and refreshing beer, pumpkin spiced latte or 王老吉 with the other teachers after a hard day of dancing monkey work. Everyone’s having a nice time. Then, somebody makes the unforgivable mistake of mentioning private emails, the Spanish language, contraception, tan suits, school shootings, DC-area pizza parlors or, worst of all, (brace yourself) Muslims.
At this point, our overweight and sweating protagonist bravely springs into action to fight an enemy nobody else can see, showering all present with a glistening projectile vomit of George Soros, false-flags, MS-13 and 「urban thugs」, followed by a request for someone to order another beer for them because they can’t speak a lick of Chinese.
If we were to distill the message about these brave, passionate men, they are very angry about immigration, globalism and the dwindling influence of religion. So, naturally, they chose to move to China to become English teachers.
Now, I can't be alone in noticing that these bastions of upright morality tend to drift somewhat from their family values message. In fact, their one defining feature is that they seem to be rather uniformly fond of visiting dodgy massage parlors and/or scarlet-tinged barbershops, regardless of their marital status. Luckily for us, they tend to talk, at length and in great detail, about their trips to these establishments without the slightest hint of the ability to read the facial expression of the person they’re talking to.
We beg you, Mr Sexpat, do us a favour and look deeply in the mirror. Surely you can see the hypocrisy of being an immigrant who hates immigrants and a man focused on family values who cheats on his wife with sex workers?
You have two options - adopt a more open political ideology to reflect your own behaviour or become a better person (I'd probably recommend option 2).
