1.all， both同屬前位限定詞，但all可以與三類名詞搭配，both只能與複數可數名詞搭配，從意義上講both指兩者，all指三者或三者以上。如：
How much time will you take for all this work?
All children can be naughty sometimes.
I got both these vases in Spain.
Both cats are asleep.
all和both用於否定時表示部分否定。
例如：
I cannot promote both of you.
我不能使你們兩個都提升。
All flowers in his garden are not red.
他花園裡的花並非都是紅色的。
Both (of them) are not my brothers.
他們兩個之中，只有一個是我的兄弟。
另外，表示部分否定的詞還有every (everyone)。

Every man can not be a poet.
並非人人都可以成為詩人。
要表達全部否定要用none / no (nobody) ， neither， either等。

I cannot promote either of you.

No flower in his garden is red.
他花園的花都不是紅的。
2.all 和every從意義上十分相近，都用來泛指人或物，然而兩者各自與名詞搭配的類別不同，every只能與單數可數名詞連用。如：
All Mondays are horrible.
(= Every Monday is horrible. )
all後可以跟the或this， my等限定詞，而every卻不行。
例如：
All the boys of this class are able to run faster than their teacher.
試比較：
She was here all day.她在這裡呆了一整天。
She was here every day. 她天天都在這裡。
3.every和each同屬中位限定詞，都可與單數名詞連用，且意義相近，表示'每個』，然而every和each並不完全一樣，every強調整體概括，each則表示個別概念。例如：
Each day is better than the one before.
一天比一天好。
Every player was in good form.
每個運動員都處於最佳狀態。
如果不特別強調某一意義時，every和each可以互換。
例如：
We want every child to succeed.
我們希望每個孩子都成功。
Each child will find his own personal road to success.
每個孩子將會找到他個人的成功之路。
each可以指兩個或兩個以上的人或東西，every卻不能指兩個，只能指三個以上的數量。例如：
Each sex has its own physical and psychological characteristics.
男女各有其身體上和心理上的特點。（不能說every sex...)
另外，如有其他限定詞同時修飾中心詞，each可作代詞取each of的形式，而every則只能作限定詞。例如：
Each of my parents gave me presents for Christmas.
過聖誕節時我父母每人都給我送了禮物。
4.either 和neither 同屬中位限定詞，與名詞連用時不能和其他限定詞同用（如冠詞，物主代詞，或指示代詞）。either 和neither都只修飾單數可數名詞，動詞也用單數。例如：
Either day is OK.
兩天中哪一天都行。
Neither car is exactly what I want.
這兩輛車都不是我想要的。
There were trees and flowers on either side of the street.
街兩旁都有樹和花。
Either kind of school is quite suitable.
兩種學校都挺適合。
either也可指'兩個都』與both的意義相近，但both後接複數名詞，either則只接單數名詞，而且both還可與其他限定詞搭配。例如：
Both (of) my children have been to America.
另外，當either， neither與其他限定詞連用時，則使用either of， neither of結構。例如：
Either of the girls is quite capable of the work.
兩位女孩都能勝任這項工作。
Neither of his cats has been fed.
他的兩隻貓都還沒喂。
注意：此時動詞用單數，不能用複數。但在否定句中卻常用複數，neither of後單複數動詞都可以，只是複數常用在非正式文體中。?????? 例如：
I don’t think either of the girls are capable of the work.
我認為這兩個女孩都不能勝任這項工作。
