It’s been just over a year since Shanghai Disney first opened their doors to the public and in that time the park has hosted a whole range of seasonal activities to keep things fresh and interesting. While many of the activities have so far been disappointingly underwhelming, this year’s Halloween festivities are well worth checking out.
To show they』ve learnt from their past mistakes, Shanghai Disneyland have pulled out all the stops this Halloween, offering up three new shows across the park. In Tomorrowland, fans of Guardians of the Galaxy can watch a dance-off featuring Starlord, Gamora, and Groot. While the plot doesn’t make that much sense, the light show, dancing, outfits and music are all great and the majority of the dialogue is in English. Definitely check it out, especially if you enjoy classic rock.
Over in Treasure Cove, once the lights go down, fans of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise can get spooked by ghost pirates drifting creepily through the mist. If you’re nice enough they』ll pose for a picture with you before they climb on board a pirate ship and put on a show. Although the pirates aren’t overly scary, you might want to be careful about taking young children to Treasure Cove around show time.
While the other two shows are really well done, our personal favourite is the Villain’s Cavalcade. Complete with some of Disney’s best villains, including Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty and Hades from Hercules, the parade floats move through the park to a specially made Halloween soundtrack with dancers and performers in tow. It makes a welcome change from the standard Mickey’s Storybook Parade so definitely be sure to carve out some time to go watch it.
As with every other seasonal promotion, Disney has spared no expense on the merchandise front with special Halloween-themed Mickey toys and other goods. There’s also a Halloween menu available at restaurants throughout the park, although to be honest it seems like most of the meals are the same as their normal offerings, but with an additional piece of food shaped like a ghost or bat placed on top.
Disney’s Halloween performances, menus, decorations and merch will be available at the park every day from now until October 31st and we highly recommend you check it out.
