如果一個句子包含兩個或多個相互之間無從屬關係的句子，這樣的句子稱為並列句。並列句的各個分句之間通常由並列連詞連接。有時在同一個句子裡常用並列連詞連接兩個並列成分，如連接兩個名詞、動詞、形容詞或副詞。
for的用法
for因為 用於對前面的句子進行解釋，所表示的因果關係多屬於推斷性的，此時不能與because互換使用。例如：
There must be people in the room, for the lights are on.
房間裡一定有人，因為燈亮著。
He must be ill today, for he didn’t come to school.
他今天一定病了，因為他沒有來上學。
for引導的句子也可以表示直接原因，此時可以與because互換使用。
He asked for leave, for/because he had to take his son to hospital.
他請了假，因為他必須送他兒子去看病。
I had to light a candle, for/because the lights went out suddenly.
我必須點一支蠟燭，因為燈突然熄滅了。
注意：for引導的句子不能位於句首。
