特指兩個或兩部分中的另一個或另一部分，可接單數或者複數名詞，表示兩個中「一個……另一個……」，常用結構式為：one...the other...
1.He has two brothers,one is a teacher, the other is a docter.2.There are 48 students in our class,some work hard,but the other studentsdon’t.我們班有48個學生，一些學習努力，其餘的學生不努力。 特指某一範圍內的「其他的（人或物）」相當於the other+名詞複數，指剩餘的全部。
e.g.There are 48 students in our class,some work hard,but the others don’t.e.g.We learn chinese,English,math and other subjects.相當於other+名詞複數,指剩餘的另一些，並非全部。
1.Some students are doing homework,but others are talking loudly.2.A lot of people are in the park, some are singing,others are dancing.泛指同類事物中三者或三者以上中「另一個」，只能代替或修飾單數可數名詞。
