教師節，關於送禮與否，送什麼？相信很多同學都會瑟瑟發抖。不過，話說回來，最好的禮物其實就是我們認真的學習態度和學有所成。
那麼，英文裡面的 「禮物」 有 gift 和 present，到底該用哪一個呢？

好吧，不賣關子了。先來公布一下答案，然後咱們再一一分析原因。
禮物 = present
為什麼要用 present 而不用 gift？其中可是大有名堂滴！如果弄錯了兩者，可是很容易暴露自己的英語初級水平的喲~~
區別一
present 和 gift 作為名詞都是 「禮物；贈送的東西」 的意思，是近義詞。
present /preznt/
源於法語，意思是 「上交；獻上；贈送」
gift /ɡft/
gift 是古日耳曼語，原來指的是 「給與」這個動作，後來慢慢演變為 「給與的東西」。
本質上兩者都是 「禮物」，不過 gift 更常被看作是「不受約束隨便贈與的東西」 something given freely with no restrictions；但是 present 則不同，經常指代有一些儀式感的，比較正式場合下的「送禮」。
① 不管什麼情況下，不一定要是某種節日或者有紀念意義的日子下隨意贈送的禮物- gift.
This watch was a gift from my mother.
這塊表是我媽媽送給我的。
This book is a free gift for every reader.
這本書是給所有讀者的禮物。
② 在正式場合下，有儀式感的禮物 - present.
比如：

present 一般指代一些具體的禮物，比如玩具啦，巧克力啦...
而 gift 我們通過查字典可以知道它還有一個意思，表示 「抽象的禮物」。比如：神賜予的榮耀；上帝賦予的天賦等等。
She has a great gift for music. 她很有音樂才華（天賦）。
He has a gift for cooking. 他很會做飯，很好吃。
區別三
present 除了作為名詞 「禮物」。還可以用作形容詞和動詞。
1. present 作為形容詞，表示 「現有的；現在的；目前的」。
in the present situation在現有的情況下
The present owner of the house is Lily.這個房子現在的業主是莉莉。
Sorry，he was not in the office at present.抱歉，他現在不在現場。
2. present 作為動詞，意思是 「把...送給；頒發；出現；顯示；展現；提交」。
There were 10 people present at the party.有十個人去參加派對了。
I'd like to present you a gift.我想給你送一個禮物。
gift 也可以作為動詞，意思是 「白送；賦予；賜予；饋贈」。
She was gifted with a good voice.她被賜予了一副好嗓子。
He gifted her opponent a score.他白送給他的對手一分。
