英語學習中，我們經常會碰到像in front of和in the front of這樣的短語或者是固定搭配，一個有the，一個沒有the，都翻譯為：在……前面，那麼在使用上是否一樣呢？今天跟Sophie老師一起來看看吧。
先來看2個例句：
1、Jack is standing in front of Mike.
傑克正站在邁克的前面。
2、The blackboard is in the front of the classroom.
黑板在教室的前面。
句1：傑克和邁克都是獨立的個體，那麼傑克是在邁克的外部前面。
句2：黑板，教室也都是獨立個體，但黑板是在教室內部的前面，強調的是內部。
用法區別：沒有the是在物體外部的前面，有the是在物體的內部前面。
這下加the和不加the的用法區別都明白了嗎？那麼類似這樣的詞在初中課本裡還有很多。
No.1 at school 在上學/ at the school 在學校裡
Lucy is at school from Monday to Friday.
露西周一到周五都在上學。（在學校上學）
Lucy works at the school from Monday to Friday.
露西周一到周五都在學校工作。（在學校但不一定是上學，也有可能是學校裡面的員工）
區別：沒有the指在學校上學，有the指在學校，但不一定是在上學，也許是學校的員工。
No.2 at table 在桌子旁 / at the table 在桌子旁
My sister is eating/having lunch at table.
我的姐姐正在桌子旁吃午飯。（強調是在吃飯而不是做其他的）
My sister is writing her homework at the table.
我的姐姐正在桌子旁寫作業。（也在桌子旁，強調是在寫作業）
區別：沒有the指在桌子旁吃飯，重在吃飯，有the也在桌子旁，但不是吃飯，側重指做其他事情。
No.3 by sea 乘船 / by the sea 在海邊
I will go to Hankou by sea next week。
下周我將要乘船去漢口。
There are many trees by the sea.
海邊有許多樹。
區別：沒有the指乘船，by +交通工具，表示出行方式，有the表示在海邊。
No.4 in hospital 在醫院 / in the hospital 在醫院裡
Jim's mother was in hospital yesterday.
吉姆的媽媽昨天因病住院了。（強調有病住院）
Jim's mother is a doctor in the hospital.
吉姆的媽媽在醫院是個護士。（也在醫院但不是生病住院而是在醫院工作）
區別：沒有the指因病而住院，有the不是因病住院，也許是在醫院工作。
