電影《小丑》已經爆火了一段時間了，雖然國內沒有上映，但這部電影僅僅靠著預告片和電影裡的經典鏡頭就吸引了大家的眼球。作為酷艾英語，我們不聊劇情，不聊演技，今天就單純聊一聊《小丑》這部電影裡用到的一些關鍵的英語單詞：
Mental Illness
n. 精神疾病
Mental Illness幾乎是貫穿這部電影的核心詞彙了。作為小丑本人，Arthur實際上有著不同的精神疾病。這種情況下的他飽受壓力，又不被理解。
Arthur 在自己的筆記本裡寫下：
The worst part of having a mental illness is people expect you to behave as if you don't.
患精神病最糟的是，人們都期盼你裝沒病。
You Get What You Deserve
你只配得到你該得到的！
電影裡的這段對話讓人印象深刻，Arthur在電視臺被採訪的時候，不斷地被嘲笑調侃，生氣的他無奈的說出這句話。
Arthur Fleck: How 'bout another joke, Murray?
Murray Franklin: No, I think we've had enough of your jokes.
Arthur Fleck: What do you get...
Murray Franklin: I don't think so.
Arthur Fleck: ...when you cross...
Murray Franklin: I think we're done here now, thank you.
Arthur Fleck: ...a mentally ill loner with a society that abandons him and treats him like trash?
Murray Franklin: Call the police, Gene, call the police.
Arthur Fleck: I'll tell you what you get! You get what you f*ckin' deserve!
Negative Thoughts
負面（或消極）的想法
電影裡前半部分反覆貫穿的內容就是Arthur嘗試走出抑鬱，走出心理疾病的過程。但是Arthur自己總是有這些negative thoughts，這在和心理醫生的對話裡也提到過：
Arthur Fleck: You don't listen, do you? You just ask the same questions every week. "How's your job?" "Are you having any negative thoughts?" All I have are negative thoughts.
Cents
Cent的意思大家都知道，對於大部分國外貨幣就是一分錢的意思。但是這個單詞為什麼在電影裡很重要呢，原因在於這句話：
I hope my death makes more cents than my life.
這裡一語雙關，本身在語法角度，正確表達應該是make sense，也就是說他希望自己的生活能夠「講得通」，但是生活中哪裡有那麼多可以講得通的事情呢？何況是在沒有錢的情況下，這裡把cent替換了sense，更反應Arthur的窘迫。
Life Is A Comedy
生活是一個喜劇
「生活是一個喜劇」，誰說不是呢！
I used to think that my life was a tragedy, but now I realize, it's a comedy.
各種原因讓Arthur的生活一直都不順利，他一直都覺得自己的生活是個悲劇，直到一系列的事情發生，他覺得自己的生活悲劇的可笑。
What It's Like Out There
外面的世界是什麼樣的？
Arthur在採訪中說的一句話，在西方影評圈裡廣受好評，這句話的核心問題就是「外面的世界是什麼樣的？」 上層社會的這些人不知道底層人民的疾苦，不知道所謂的what it's like out there...
Arthur Fleck: Have you seen what it's like out there, Murray? Do you ever actually leave the studio? Everybody just yells and screams at each other. Nobody's civil anymore. Nobody thinks what it's like to be the other guy.
People are starting to notice
人們開始注意（我）了
Arthur在「變身」成為小丑之後，自己突然意識到，有人開始注意到他，甚至是跟隨他的腳步了。這句話是Arthur變成小丑之後的關鍵心理變化。
For my whole life, I didn't know if I even really existed. But I do, and people are starting to notice.
You Wouldn’t Get It
你不會理解的
You wouldn’t get it 這句話其實是抑鬱患者的經常性旁白，「你不會理解的」，對於不知道這些痛苦的社工心理醫生來說，Arthur的痛苦她是不會理解的。
Social Worker: Is something funny?
Arthur Fleck: I just thought of a funny joke!
Social Worker: Do you mind telling it?
Arthur Fleck: You wouldn't get it.
