canvass 比 canvas 多一個字母，它們發音雖然一樣，但是意思完全不同。chord 與 cord 發音也一樣，但意思也是完全不同。
一、chord 作名詞，意為「和弦；和音；弦」，例如：
She strummed a few chords on her guitar.
她在吉他上彈了幾下和弦。
There are two naturals in this chord.
這一和弦中有兩個本位音。
This is a chord of a circle.
這是個圓的弦。
chord 有一個固定搭配 strike/touch a chord (among/with sb)，意為「引起同情（或共鳴），例如：
Her speech struck a sympathetic chord among business leaders.

The speaker had obviously struck a chord with his audience.
講演者顯然已引起了聽眾的共鳴。
解析：當一組裡有或是超過三個事物，且所指事物是該組裡面的一部分或沒有特指時，用 among.
二、cord 作名詞
1、意為「粗線，細繩」，例如：
Where's the cord that ties back the curtains?
把窗簾綁起來的繩子在哪兒？
You need a piece of thick cord about two metres long.
你需要一根大約兩米長的粗繩子。
2、意為「電源線」，例如：
We used so many lights that we needed four extension cords.
我們用的燈很多，因此需要4個接線板。
解析：
A、light 意為「電燈，發光體，光源」時，為可數名詞。
B、so … that … 引導結果狀語從句，意為「如此……以致……」。
3、意為「燈芯絨褲子，以複數形式存在，類似於 pants，例如：
He had bare feet, a T-shirt and cords on.
他光著腳，穿著T恤衫和燈芯絨褲子。
