The Florida Project is a 2017 American drama film directed by Sean Baker and written by Baker and Chris Bergoch. The title is derived from the early name for Walt Disney World, located near the setting of the film. The film was praised for its direction and acting, particularly the performances of Prince, Dafoe, and Vinaite.
In the shadow of Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom, the Magic Castle--a garishly painted rundown motel crammed with the imperceptible homeless who can't afford a proper accommodation--is the unenchanting world the struggling ex-stripper single mother, Halley, and her fearless six-year-old daughter, Moonee, call home. But for the mischievous Moonee and her riotous gang of best friends, this place is also a magical playground of endless adventure and a blissful Utopia nestled inside innocence's protective bubble; nevertheless, the illusion of a carefree life comes at a high price, as young Halley takes increasingly greater risks to make ends meet. Over the course of a single summer, childhood's wide-eyed moments of wonder together with the reckless transgressions of youth and an inevitable ugly confrontation will attempt to blemish the mother-and-daughter idyll. However, do shadows exist in the realm of fantasy?
The Florida Project premiered in the Directors' Fortnight section of the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. It was chosen by both the National Board of Review and American Film Institute as one of the top 10 films of the year. Dafoe earned Best Supporting Actor nominations at the Academy Awards, Golden Globes, SAG Awards, and BAFTA Awards.

Summer 1993 is a 2017 Catalan-language Spanish drama film directed by Carla Simón. Born in Barcelona, Spain in 1986, the director Carla Simón grew up in a Catalan village. She then studied on a TV Fiction course organised by Catalan Television and subsequently at the London Film School.
In the Summer of 1993, Frida, a six-year-old little girl, leaves Barcelona and her grandparents for the countryside. After her father, her mother has just died of a mysterious illness. Taken in by her uncle Esteve and aunt Marga, Frida discovers her new environment, an old stone farmhouse in a mountainous area close to a dense forest. Her new "parents" prove friendly. Another good point is that they have a three-year old daughter named Anna who can become a playmate. For another child less disturbed than miserable uprooted Frida, this would be the most idyllic of stays, in other words a permanent vacation. But Frida is disturbed and if there are undeniably good times at her new "home", there is also the unexpressed pain which makes her both feel sad and behave badly. Will Frida overcome her troubles? Only the end of Summer will tell.
The film premiered in the Generation section at the 67th Berlin International Film Festival, where it won the GWFF Best First Feature Award. It was selected as the Spanish entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 90th Academy Awards, but it was not nominated.
