於友善,《羅漢之一》(Arhat I),69 × 69 cm
於友善(b.1957)的作品用筆雄健、水墨飽蘸,在章法經營的嚴謹和對個性化語言的追求間尋到平衡,以傳統之精神為統領,將重骨力的流暢線條運用於畫面中的情感表達,毫無掛礙地直抒胸臆。「宣物莫善於言、存『情』莫大於畫。」於友善老師筆下的《羅漢》,肅穆中透出渾然天成的疏朗之氣。繁而不雜的布局,正應了「誇張之處不失沉實,方正之間不失張揚」——一個中國畫家的紮實功力和對傳統的深入理解躍然紙上。
Yu Youshan(b.1957)is well known for his strength in touch and richness in ink. Yu searches for the perfect balance between normative rigor and the pursuit for personality. Yu puts traditional spirit as his primary guidance, employing fluent lines with heavy structure in the emotional expression of his works without any obstacles, as he believes that "Words are best fit to describe objects as paintings to feelings". Yu's series of Arhat, reflect a quasi-natural touch in solemnity. The well-organized layouts demonstrated directly the his tribute to traditions and rigor on skills, among the finest of the Chinese painters, as is described "honest exaggeration, foursquare liberation".

程大利先生曾這樣表述他對於友善繪畫的看法:「友善的畫給我留下的印象大致有這樣幾點:對傳統的深深認識和尊重;紮實的造型功底;嚴謹的章法經營;對個性化語言的追求」。於友善對傳統的認識是深層次的。他首先吸收的是傳統的精神,諸如線的圓厚、渾樸、重骨力並保持暢達流動,毫無障礙地表達情感和情緒。傳統繪畫的精髓是線,靠它去述形、述神、直抒胸臆,所有的藝術辯證法在線上都能得到印證,我們完全可以從線上判斷一個中國畫家的功力。
Cheng Dali's discussion regarding Yu's works is very accurate. "Yu's painting left me several impressions: The deep understanding and respect for tradition, solid formative skills, strict distribution and the pursuit for personality." Yu's understanding of Chinese traditions is in deep level. He absorbs traditional spirit, such as the rotundity, simplicity and structure and fluidity of lines, to the end of obstaclelss expression of emotions and feelings. The essence of tradition painting is the usage of lines on the description of shape, soul and heart. Every dialectical method can be proved in the usage of lines, from which we can evaluate the training of a Chinese fine artist.

於友善特別重視線條。他在《線條的困惑》一文中也說過:「線條之於中國畫,最初的功能只是框定形狀,勾畫輪廓。隨著繪畫的發展,線條被賦予更多的功能和內涵,不僅要清晰展示出畫家所描繪的物體,還要顯示出某種意蘊和精神,以昭示人類的某些情感,甚至被分門別類,與各類意蘊一一對應。」讀於老師作品,你會發現作品中的每根線條都有著天然的生命力。於老師用其雄健之筆,飽蘸水墨,在隨意揮灑中,勾勒出一幅幅精彩畫作。
Yu's focus on lines is unneglectable. In his essay "Questions about lines", the artist argued that "Initially Lines are dedicated to the description of forms and figures in Chinese painting. Along history, lines are developed with more functions. Not only can they demonstrate the desired objects, but also to present certain spirit and meaning in order to express various human emotions, or even can be categorized to correspond to distinctive implications." Yu uses his robust ink brush to line out extraordinary presentations at will.

恆若在《於畫於情——讀於友善畫作》與線條相比,更令人欽佩的是於老師在作品中傾注的感情。他認為繪畫就該是情緒的表現,中國畫更應當直抒胸臆,暢快無礙。創作中他總將自己的感情注入水中、墨裡,感情隨著線條訴諸筆端。構成作品的每一個元素都帶有直接而飽滿的感情色彩,酣暢淋漓地揮灑抒發。他畫的仕女總是惹人憐愛、羅漢總是使人肅穆。如若一個畫者無法用手中的筆抒發感情,那麼他的作品如何動人?於畫於情,於老師畫作的每一個符號、元素,無不體現了作者的真情所在,線條如此,筆墨如此,節奏、韻味、氣息亦如此。由此構成的一幅幅山水、人物、花鳥畫作,為于氏樹立了獨特的藝術格調和筆墨境界。
Hengruo says in his <Yu's paintings and emotions - on the works of Yu Youshan>, "Comparing to the usage of lines, the emotion Yu injected into his works is more admirable. Yu thinks that painting is representation of feelings and Chinese painting in particular should be free expression of heart. In composition he poured his feelings into ink and water, emerged with lines at brush. Every element in his work is filled with free, direct and rich emotion. Yu's vision of Beauties is lovely and Arhats solemn. If a painter cannot use his brush to pour out sentiments, the works shall not be touching. Yu's works manifests the creator's true heart in every way: line, ink, rhythm and anim. From this, the shanshui, figure, bird-and flower paintings established Yu's unique style and state.

Arts Without Borders is a life-long pursuit. When the youngest curator in China step into a brainstorm with the World’s most prominent curating masters over the Nanjing Biennale in 2010, the possibilities and potentials of art crossing boundaries enlightened her version. This became the founding moment of this movement.
