位於延禧洞的SPACEDOG是基於「從太空迫降地球」的劇情打造出來的空間，由電影院、咖啡廳、攝影棚和屋頂露臺構成。整體空間採用了從地下到屋頂，象徵逐漸進入地球的敘事結構。其中的咖啡廳空間，還帶有「宇宙中另一顆行星」的小主題。在設計上，相較於直觀的宇宙，更傾向於展現宇宙的質感和形態。負責設計的Minkoo Cha所長為了尋找靈感，參考了多部宇宙題材的電影，反覆思考適合宇宙空間的素材和形態是什麼。
SPACEDOG located in Yeonhui-dong is a space consisting of movie theater, cafe, studio and rooftop terrace based on the scenario of 「emergency landing from universe to Earth」. The more one ascends from the basement to the rooftop, the closer one approaches to the earth. Among them, cafe space has a sub-theme of another planet in the universe. It aims at expressing the universe’s texture and shape rather than an intuitive universe. Director Minkoo Cha who referred to various films related to universe in order to be inspired, thought repeatedly what material and shape would suit the space called the universe.
設計師與客戶一同決定將「極簡、不誇張的宇宙」作為關鍵詞，相較於直觀和誇張的設計，他們希望給予空間包容人的豁達。空間將宇宙的圓形作為主元素，隨處可見帶有曲線設計的座椅、照明和鏡子等，還使用了光、水、石、金屬等材料來表現宇宙性的材質和行星的物質。尤其是金屬鏡子模糊的反射，代表了從太空迫降地球的「我」找尋自我本質的起點。而鏡子的物性也非常適合用來表現迫降地球後找尋「自我」的過程。
The designer and the client chose 「minimal and non-exaggerating universe」 as the keyword, and intended to express spaciousness to embrace people rather than intuitive and showy designs. There are many curves such as seats, lightings and mirrors throughout the space which used the original form of universe mainly, and materials such as light, water, stone and metal were used to express cosmic texture and planet materials. The vague reflection of metal mirror, in particular, marks the starting point for finding the essence of 「I」 that made an emergency landing from universe to Earth. The mirror was a suitable material to express the process of finding 「myself」 after an emergency landing.
在各領域的諸多創作者聚集一堂的延禧洞，SPACEDOG咖啡廳希望能夠成為一個熱門的聚會和社交場所，設計團隊沿著水空間將座位布置成圓形。也就是意在展現宇宙中的行星。正如人們在茂密叢林等自然空間裡聽到流水聲時，心情會變得平靜一樣，設計師也希望這裡能夠成為全新的、舒適的城市中心的休憩場所。
The design team who wanted CAFE SPACEDOG to be a place for meeting and socializing in Yeonhui-dong where creators in various fields exist, placed benches roundly along the waterfront. In a word, they intended to express a planet in the universe. Just as listening to the sound of flowing water in the natural space of a dense forest makes us feel at ease, the designer hoped it would become a new and comfortable resting place in the city center.
設計委託人Kiboon Seo代表最初創業就是在延禧洞，現在他仍居住於此，他看到延禧洞的年輕人時，萌生了一個念頭，希望打造一個為渴望綻放自己、努力生活的人播種的空間，一個為眼前綻放的青春感到喜悅的空間。因此，設計團隊並沒有局限於單純的咖啡廳功能，而是意圖讓空間具備作為複合文化空間的空間性，讓創作者們能夠盡情實現夢想。基於這種考慮，設計師將二樓打造成了一個靈活的空間，平時這裡是設有座位的咖啡廳，但展開隱藏的移動牆時，就能夠變身為展示空間。這裡是供各領域年輕創作者進行聚會，讓他們彼此聯繫，從而創造出協同效應的最佳場所。
The client Kiboon Seo dreamed of creating a place where those who lived their lives resolutely in order to bloom themselves could sow the seeds and be pleased with the bloomed, while looking at young people in Yeonhui-dong where they started their business and were living still. Therefore, the design team expressed the spatiality as a complex cultural space where creators could realize their dreams to the fullest, rather than simply putting limits on the cafe’s functions. In this regard, the cafe with regular seats on the second floor is also a flexible space that changes into an exhibition space, when the hidden moving walls are unfolded. It is an optimized space where young creators in various fields can gather and create synergy.
寓意「Crossover Value」的COV STUDIO的落腳點，在空間中逐一反映了客戶的情調、想法和層次。與他們一同思考，採用貼合他們的材料、形狀和顏色打造而成。同時，還希望來到這個空間的訪客能夠在新穎中感受舒適，這是他們今後還將繼續展開的設計的一部分。SPACEDOG咖啡廳正是一個充滿這種目的性的思想停靠站。
The goal of COV STUDIO which has the meaning of 「Crossover Value」, is to reflect the client’s atmosphere, thoughts, and texture thoroughly in the space. To contemplate with them and create materials, forms and colors that resemble them, and at the same time to hope that visitors who visit the space feel comfortable in the newness, these may be the parts of their future design. CAFE SPACEDOG is a station of thought filled with such purpose.

연희동에 위치한 스페이스독은 『우주에서 지구로 불시착한다』는 시나리오를 바탕으로 영화관과 카페, 스튜디오, 루프탑 테라스로 구성된 공간이다. 지하층에서부터 옥상으로 향할수록 점점 지구로 진입하는 서사구조를 갖추고 있다. 그중 카페 공간은 우주 속 다른 행성이라는 소주제를 갖고 있다. 직관적인 우주보다는 우주의 질감과 형태를 담고자 한 부분이다. 차민구 소장은 영감을 얻기 위해 여러 우주 영화를 참고했다고 한다. 더불어 추상적일 수밖에 없는 우주라는 콘셉트와 이를 표현하기 위한 현실적인 마감재 사이의 연결고리에 대해 팀원들과 고민을 거듭했다. 우주라는 공간에 어울리는 소재와 형태가 어떤 것인지 말이다.그리하여, 클라이언트와 함께 뽑은 키워드는 『미니멀하며 과시하지 않는 우주』였다. 공간을 전개하는 데 있어서 직관적이고 과시적인 디자인보단 사람들을 품을 수 있는 넉넉함을 담고자 했다. 우주의 원형을 주로 사용하였으므로 공간 곳곳에 곡선이 많이 담겨있다. 좌석, 조명, 거울 등이 그것이다. 이와 함께 우주적 재질과 행성의 물질을 표현하고자 빛과 물, 돌, 금속 등의 소재를 공간에 담았다.
특히 금속 거울의 흐릿한 반사는 우주에서 지구로 불시착한 『나』의 본질을 찾는 시작점을 나타낸다. 즉 내 의지가 아닌 불명확한 이유로 지구에 진입했다는 이야기는, 다름 아닌 내 의지가 아닌 채로 우연히 세상에 태어나게 된 점을 일컫는다. 이에 따라 거울은 불시착한 이후 『자아』를 찾아가는 과정을 표현하기에 적합한 물성이었다. 한편으로 인간은 자신의 삶을 탐험하는 동시에 세상 속 일부분이 되기도 한다. 하물며 우주는 온갖 물질의 집합체이다. 따라서 설계팀은 공간을 채우는 창작의 영감들이 둥근 벤치에 둘러싸여 서로의 시너지가 되길 바랐다.
각 분야에서 창의적인 작업을 이어나가는 사람들이 존재하는 연희동에서 만남과 사교의 장소로 스페이스독 카페가 한 축을 담당하길 바랐던 설계팀은 수공간을 따라 둥글게 벤치를 배치했다. 한마디로 우주 속에 행성을 표현하고자 했다. 이곳에 다양한 창작자들이 둘러앉아 서로 이야기를 나누며 시너지를 얻길 바란 설계자의 마음이다. 숲속 나무가 우거진 자연적인 공간에서 물이 흐르는 소리를 들으면 마음이 편안해지는 것처럼, 새롭지만 편안한 공간이길 소망했다. 도심 속 쉼의 거처가 되도록 말이다.
클라이언트인 서기분 대표는 젊은 시절, 일에 매진하느라 꿈을 꿀 겨를조차 없었다. 그러던 중, 처음 사업을 시작하고 지금도 거주하고 있는 연희동의 청춘들을 보았다. 비록 조그맣지만 자신을 피우고자 분연히 삶을 살아내는 사람들에게 씨앗을 뿌릴 수 있는 터를 제공하고, 피어난 것들을 보며 즐거워할 수 있는 그런 터를 만들고 싶다는 꿈을 품게 되었다. 하여, 설계팀은 단순히 카페의 기능에 한계를 두기보단 창작자들이 마음껏 꿈을 펼칠 수 있는 복합문화공간으로서 공간성을 갖추도록 의도했다. 이러한 점에서 2층 공간은 평상시 좌석이 배치된 카페이지만 숨겨진 무빙월을 펼치면 전시공간으로 변경되는 유동적인 공간이다. 각 분야의 젊은 창작자들이 모여 연결(Docking)되어 시너지를 창출(Launching)할 수 있는 최적화된 공간을 만들고자 한 것이다.
『Crossover Value』라는 뜻을 품은 COV STUDIO의 지향점은 클라이언트의 분위기, 생각, 결을 공간에 속속들이 반영하는 것이다. 그들과 함께 고민하며 그들을 닮은 소재와 형태와 색을 만들어내는 것. 동시에 공간을 찾는 방문자들이 새로움 속에서 편안함을 찾길 바라는 것. 그것이 그들이 앞으로도 전개해나갈 디자인의 한 부분일 것이다. 스페이스독 카페는 바로 그러한 목적성이 가득 담긴 사유의 정거장이다.
