Investing is a key part of our Business Studies course—entrepreneurs investing their savings to pursue a new business venture, shareholders investing in companies, companies investing in new technology, and so on.
What the book doesn’t teach, however, is personal investment. In other words, how we as individuals can invest to secure our financial futures. Grown, working adults often have a difficult time understanding personal finance and basic investment principles, much less high school students. Stocks? Bonds? Mutual funds? ETFs? Bitcoin??? Yes, it can be confusing, which is exactly why our class embarked on something educational yet fun—a stock market challenge.

The winner of the contest nearly doubled his investment. Some lost money. All students had a blast.
Our stock market challenge lasted only three months, but smart investors know that investing is a marathon, not a sprint. All in all, the greatest lesson the students have learned: investing early and often will set them up for future financial success.
