秋風送爽，丹桂飄香，秋天的氣溫應該是全年最舒適的時候了。
我們都知道秋天的英文表達是autumn，而year是「年」的意思，那麼當這兩個單詞組合到一起「autumn years」是秋天一樣的年嗎？
我們翻開劍橋詞典，裡面對autumn years是這樣解釋的：
Someone's autumn years are the later years of their life, especially after they have stopped working.
所以autumn years是指：暮年，晚年（特指退休之後）

那麼我們來拓展一下，autumn 和 fall 的區別是什麼？
大家都知道 autumn 和 fall 都是秋天的意思
那他們之間的區別是什麼呢？
其實只是英國人喜歡把秋天叫autumn，而fall是美國多民族下形成的本地語。
fall 這個詞除了 「秋季」 還有很多其他意思
①作為名詞，有「瀑布；下落」的意思。
One night there was a heavy fall of rain
有一天晚上下了一場大雨。
②作為動詞，有「跌落、落下」的意思。
the autumn leaves are falling
秋天樹葉開始凋落。
同時，還有一些與季節相關的俚語
①dog days，指代最熱的天氣，也就是 「三伏天」。
Eating ice cream during the dog days.
大夏天吃冰淇淋。
② in the dead of winter，這個短語很好理解，最冷最冷的天氣，簡直要凍死個人。所以，in the dead of winter 意思就是 「隆冬」。
另外，它還有一個意思，表示 「夜晚萬籟俱寂的時候」。
We used to go for walks in the forest in the dead of winter.
