我們都知道「run」最常見的意思是「跑」，
但是「長跑」可不是long run，
「短跑」也不是run short，別再說錯了!
long是「長」，
run是「跑」，
但long run卻不是「長跑」。
long run真正意思是「長期的」，
固定搭配是
「in the long run 」
at a time that is far away in the future

例：
It seems a lot of effort but I'm sure it's the best solution in the long run.
看起來需要付出很大的努力，但從長遠來看，我敢肯定這是最好的解決辦法。
我們所說的「長跑」強調的是距離長，
正確表達：
long-distance running
例：
In the P.E.class we had the long-distance running.
體育課上，我們要進行長跑。
short有「短的」意思，
但run short並不是「短跑」，
而是指：
短缺、不夠，快用完。

另外，ran out of 表示：
用完、耗盡
run out of money = 錢花光了
run out of credit = 手機停機
「短跑」的正確表達是：
