每次新一期的推文發完，我就開始絞盡腦汁想下一期的主題，內容有很多，個人覺得有趣的也不少，但是就是不知道大家是否會感興趣。這個過程其實也是挺折騰人的。
不如我們今天就來聊聊英美人到底是怎麼「絞盡腦汁」的吧！
rack : /ræk/
vt. To make sb suffer great physical or mental pain (使...痛苦不堪，使...受折磨）
brain:
n. the ability to learn and think about things in a logical and intelligent way. （智力，腦力）
（註：在這個成語裡brain不是指身體器官哦，brain表示智力腦力時，可以做不可數名詞用，也可以做可數名詞，做可數名詞用時常用複數。）
Eg. In this job you need brains as well as brawn. 這項工作既費腦力又耗體力。
rack one’s brain（s) 這個短語用來形容想盡辦法、費盡心思去思考一件事情。(是不是感覺與中文表達神契合？）
eg:
The test is too hard. I have been racking my brain for days.
這個測試太難了，我已經絞盡腦汁想了幾天了。
He racked his brain for a long time trying to figure out why his girlfriend was so angry，but failed。
他拼命想了好久都不知道他女朋友為什麼那麼生氣。
wit:
n.（常用複數） the ability to think quickly and clearly and to make good decisions. (智力，理解力，機智，才智。）
rack one’s wits 用法與rack one’s brain(s)一樣。
eg:
He racked all his wits to find his way out.
他絞盡腦汁找到出路。
beat:
vt. To be too difficult for sb ; defeat (難倒，打敗）
成語英文釋義：to think very hard about sth for a long time.
eg:
She beat her brains out trying to solve the problem.
她為了解決這個問題絞盡腦汁。
cudgel：[ˈkʌdʒl]
n. a short thick stick that is used as a weapon. （粗短棍）
vt. to hit sb with a cudgel. （用短棍打）
想想看，絞盡腦汁的想一個問題還真是好比有人用棍棒敲打你的頭哦。不過這個用法是舊式英語了，現在很少用。
eg:
He's been cudgeling his brains all day over this problem.
他整天都在為這個問題費腦筋。
總結一下，中英文的「絞盡腦汁」都與腦有關，兩種文化在這個表達上還真是神同步了。你都記住了嗎？
