Hey, it's Hadar. Today is March 8 - International Women's Day.

你們好，我是 Hadar。今天是3月8日——國際婦女節。

And I figured it would be the perfect day to discuss the difference between a 'woman' and 'women'. One 'woman', a few 'women' or many 'women'.

我覺得今天是講「woman」和「women」區別的最佳時機。一個「woman（女人）」，幾個「women（女人們）」，或者說很多「women」。

And if you're watching it not on March 8, then, it doesn't matter.

Cuz every day is Women's Day!

如果你不是在3月8號看的這個視頻，那也沒什麼關係。

因為每天都是婦女節！

So let's get started. Woman.

那我們就開始吧。Woman。

Women. Let's begin with a singular form: Woman.

Women。我們先從單數形式開始：Woman。

We start with a 'W' sound. So round your lips and then open it up to an 'oh' as in 'good'.

先從『W』的讀音開始。就把你的舌頭捲起來，張開嘴，作出和念『oh』一樣的口型，發出像「good」中「oo」的聲音。

You see, so my lips open up a little bit, but there's still a little bit rounded. The jaw drops.

你看，就像我這樣微微張開嘴，但口型是有一些偏圓形的。下顎往下。

The tongue pulls back and it's kind of relaxed in the back.

Think like you have a hot potato in the back of your mouth and you don't have to touch anything.

舌頭向後拉，後部放鬆。

就想像你的口腔後部有一個燙手的山芋，你什麼都不用碰。

And then you move on to the second syllable which is "m'n". It's an 'M' sound, a schwa (a reduced vowel) and then an 'N'.

然後再看第二個音節，「m'」。是『M』的音，一個非中央元音(一個弱化元音)，然後是『N』的音。

The plural form is different in the spelling at the end of the word, right? So instead of 'a' you have 'e', but it affects the pronunciation of the first syllable.

這個詞的複數形式在詞尾的拼寫上是不同的，對吧？不是『a』，而是『e』，但是它會影響到第一個音節的發音。

Now why is that? I have no idea, but that's just how it is.

這是為什麼？我也不知道，但就是這個樣子的。

So instead of saying 'woh-m'n', we now say 'wi-m'n'. Alright? It's the 'i' as in 'sit' vowel sound.

所以它的讀音就不是『woh-m'n』了，而是『wi-m'n』。就像『sit』這個詞中『i』的發音。

So from the 'W' you switch to the 'i' sound 'wi', and then again the ending is exactly the same: "m'n". One 'woman', a few 'women'.

所以就是把『W』和『i』的音連起來，讀『wi』，然後結尾和之前是一樣的：「m'n」。一個『woman』，幾個『women』。
