美國總統當選人川普以70歲高齡入主白宮，是美國史上最年長的新任總統。今(20)日在宣誓就職數小時前，川普在推特和臉書上留言表示，〝一切始於今天! ...工作開始了!〞
華盛頓當地時間11點30分，川普就職典禮正式拉開帷幕。參議員Roy Blunt在就職典禮上致開幕詞。紐約州民主黨議員舒默隨後致辭。舒默結束致辭後，副總統潘斯上臺宣誓就職。潘斯宣誓後與家人擁抱，川普與潘斯握手並對其表示恭賀 。
潘斯結束宣誓後，川普正式在首席大法官羅伯茨面前宣誓就職，他表示，「我謹莊嚴宣誓（或鄭重聲明），我必忠實執行美利堅合眾國總統職務，竭盡全力，恪守、維護和捍衛美利堅合眾國憲法，請幫助我，上帝。」
本身不差錢的川普，親友團也是個個壕氣十足！川普的委員會已經從大公司、私人金主和其他支持者中，為這一天拉來了1億美元的資金籌款，遠超歐巴馬在2009年籌得的5300萬美元。
美國媒體推算出川普就職儀式的花銷將在1.75億到2億美元之間，將力壓前任歐巴馬，成為美國史上「最昂貴總統就職儀式」。
