母犬患子宮積膿的平均年齡範圍為6.5~8.5歲。通過對瑞典犬的存活率進行分析，平均起來，23%~24%的母犬10歲時將發生子宮積膿。如果出現子宮積膿，就屬於病理性手術了，會出現嚴重的代謝紊亂，往往引發敗血症和腎衰，手術後的死亡率為4%~20%。
犬貓乳腺腫瘤的發病率約佔母犬所有腫瘤的50%，也是貓的第3大類常見腫瘤，主要發生於平均年齡約為10歲的老年貓。犬貓早期絕育可以有效地預防乳腺腫瘤的發生。約50%以上的母犬乳腺腫瘤為良性，而貓乳腺腫瘤則通常為惡性。
