每年都有很多小夥伴會參加城市馬拉松賽跑（marathon），而且還要報名抽籤抽中了才能跑，這股精神和王霸之氣真是讓人望塵莫及。
想想看，馬拉松賽跑如果你跑全馬的話，可是有42.195千米啊——名副其實的長跑了。
不過，在英語中，「Long run」可不是「長跑」，「short run」也不是「短跑」啊！
1）Long run VS short run
從字面上看，long run和short run像是「長跑」和「短跑」，只不過這裡的run咱們不能理解為跑步，更像是某一段時間。
看看英文解釋：Used to describe what will happen in a long or short period of time in the future，也就是用來描述在將來很長一段時間內或很短一段時間內，將會發什麼。
因此，long run和short run是指長期和短期，有時候也寫作long term和short term。

① This strategy can make the business more efficient in the long run.
從長期來看，這個策略可以讓業務更有效。
② We are very pleased with the short run，especially the performance of this quarter.
我們對眼下（短期）感到很滿意，尤其是這個季度的業績。
2）Long-distance race or Long-distance run
那「長跑」到底用英語怎麼說呢？
長跑，也就是意味「距離比較長的跑步」，所以我們可以說成long-distance race or long-distance run（long-distance表示長途的，長距離的意思）。
看看英語例句：
① The runner with the greatest endurance can win long-distance race.
有非凡耐力的選手才能贏得長跑冠軍。
② It is surprising that Tom won a silver medal in the long-distance race.
湯姆在長跑比賽中贏得了銀牌，這真是太讓人驚訝了。
3）Sprint or Dash
既然「長跑」叫long-distance run，那「短跑」是不是short-distance run？你要這麼描述，也不能說錯。
只不過，在英語中，短跑有專門的叫法——sprint或者dash，意思是短跑，衝刺跑，短程競速跑。

博爾特在短跑界中多年來一直都是世界級的短跑運動員。
② She jumped out of the car and sprinted for the front door.
