Hello, everybody. This is Elliot from ETJ English and today, I'm sat on the floor. Today, we are here to talk about pronunciation.
大家好。我是 ETJ 英語頻道的埃利奧特,今天我坐在地板上。今天,我們來談談發音。
We're here to talk about how you can start improving your pronunciation right now. Some useful techniques and things you can do just to really speed up the process.
我們現在就來談談如何開始提高你的發音。介紹一些有用的技巧和你可以做的事來真正加快這個過程。
So, how do we do it? Well, let me start with my first point.
那麼,我們該怎麼做呢?好吧,讓我從我的第一點開始。
The first thing I want you to do is to familiarize yourself with the IPA. What's the IPA, Elliott?
我想讓你們做的第一件事是熟悉 IPA。埃利奧特,IPA 是什麼?
Well, the IPA is the international phonetic alphabet. Lots of you probably already know what this is.
IPA 是國際音標。你們很多人可能已經知道這是什麼了。
If you watch my videos, you will have seen some sounds from the IPA before. It's basically an alphabet of sounds.
如果你看過我的視頻,你會看到一些出自 IPA 的發音。它基本上是一個由音標組成的字母表。
So, we have the alphabet ABCDEFG. We also have an alphabet for /a/, //, /i/, //, you know, all those sounds, right?
我們字母表上有 ABCDEFG。我們也有一個音標字母表,/a/,//,/i/,//,就是所有這些音標。
And it's quite useful to learn these because in every dictionary, for example, if you learn the new words, they will also have the IPA spelling of this word and it will show you exactly how to pronounce it. So, it would be silly not to learn the IPA.
學習這些是非常有用的,因為在每一本字典裡,舉例來說,如果你學習新單詞,它們也會有這個單詞的國際音標拼寫,它會告訴你如何發音。所以,不學國際音標就虧大了。
So, the IPA includes consonants and vowels and also indicators like stress. So, this is really important because it will help you with learning firstly all the sounds which are in the English language in British English.
國際音標包括輔音和元音,也包括重音等內容。所以,它非常重要,因為它將幫助你首先學習英式英語中所有的發音。
And also, it will help you with learning how new words that you learn are pronounced. And when you learn the IPA, I also want you to notice sounds which sound similar.
同時,它也會幫助你學習新單詞的發音。當你們學習國際音標時,我也希望你們注意那些聽起來相似的音。
So, I've mentioned before in my YouTube videos the confusion that people have between words like "beach" and "b*th". Let me do a more safe for work version, let's do "sheep" and "ship".
我之前在我的 YouTube 視頻中提到過人們對單詞 beach 和 b*th 之間的混淆。讓我舉一個更安全的例子,就拿 sheep 和 ship 來說吧。
These two sounds, /i/ and //, they sound similar and this is where looking at people's mouths and mimicking people also joins this point. So, when you look at people, look at me when I pronounce "sheep", I do a big smile, right?
這兩個音,/i/ 和 //,聽起來相似,這就需要觀察人們的嘴和模仿人們發音。當你看著別人,看著我,當我念 sheep 的時候,我會露出大大的微笑,對吧?
What about when I say "ship"??"Sheep", "ship", "sheep", "ship".
那我說 ship 的時候呢?Sheep,ship,sheep,ship。
There's a difference there, I'm smiling more for /i/. My tongue is actually going higher, but it's quite difficult to see.
這就有區別了,/i/,我笑得更開。我的舌頭伸得更高了,但很難看清。
So, you need to notice what's happening with similar sounds and you also need to watch people's mouths, whether they're smiling more, whether they're creating a very round shape with the mouth.
Just keep an eye on what's happening when you're watching YouTube videos watching things on TV, and just be aware of the movements in the mouth.
你需要注意相似的音是怎麼發的,還需要觀察人們的嘴巴,看他們是不是嘴巴咧得更開,他們的嘴是否形成了一個非常圓的形狀。當你在看 YouTube 視頻和電視節目的時候,要留意人們的發音,要注意嘴巴的動作。
And then you can start mimicking, copy people, mirror people. Maybe don't do it when you're in a conversation with someone but sure you can copy people when you're at home watching TV.
然後你就可以開始模仿,模仿別人。也許在和別人談話的時候不要這樣做,但在家看電視的時候你可以模仿別人。
And the concept of mimicking and mirroring and listening to people is mostly and I would say extremely useful for learning stress and intonation.
So, maybe sometime when you're watching something like an interview with a British person or my YouTube videos, listen to the tone, don't focus on the sounds, but listen to the tone, when I'm going up, and I'm going down, and listen to what's happening.
我認為,模仿,鏡像學習和傾聽對學習重讀和語調非常有用。所以,有時候你在看英國人的採訪或者我在 YouTube 上的視頻時,要注意音調,不要把注意力集中在發音上,而是要注意音調,什麼時候上升或什麼時候下降,要注意怎麼做。
And that should give you a bit more of a natural feeling of how we're talking, you can start analyzing it and try to copy. Don't be afraid to act a little bit crazy and just walk around the house and pretend you're British.
這應該會讓你對我們說的話感到更自然,你可以開始分析並嘗試模仿。不要怕自己像個瘋子一樣,在家裡到處走假裝你是英國人。
Now, this is something that I do. Sometimes, I walk around the house and pretend I'm Australian.
這是我常做的事情。有時,我在家裡走來走去,假裝自己是澳大利亞人。
I'll just copy an Australian accent because I like it. Active practice! I also want you to be creative.
我會模仿澳大利亞口音,因為我喜歡。主動積極地練習!我也希望你有創造力。
You might have heard of these things called tongue twisters such as "She sells seashells by the seashore." Nailed it! These are where we combine lots of similar sounds and put them into one sentence to make it quite difficult to pronounce them.
你可能聽說過這些繞口令,比如 She sells seashells by the seashore。我們把很多相似的音組合在一起,把它們放在一個句子裡,這樣就很難發音了。
And what we do is we try and say them as fast as we can. Why don't you create your own tongue twisters?
我們所做的就是儘可能快地說出來。你為什麼不自己造個繞口令?
If you are creative, you will remember things more. So, instead of just looking on Google for some tongue twisters, create your own and you're more likely to remember in your brain.
如果你有創造力,你會記住更多的東西。所以,不要只是在谷歌上搜一些繞口令,而是自己造一些,這樣你更有可能在大腦中記住它們。
Being creative helps you learn faster. That is the truth.
有創造力可以幫助你學得更快。這是事實。
Record yourself. We all have smart phones nowadays.
給自己錄音。現在我們都有智慧型手機。
Get a voice recording app, use a voice recording app and record your voice. Listen to yourself and think about what you what's missing, why don't I sound British?
弄一個錄音應用程式,使用一個錄音應用程式並錄下你的聲音。聽聽你自己的聲音,想想你漏了什麼,為什麼自己聽起來不像英國人?
Maybe for some people, this might be quite hard. If you join my online course, you can send me voice recordings and I can give you detailed feedback on how you sound and what you need to work on.
也許對有些人來說,這很難。如果你加入我的在線課程,你可以把錄音發給我,我可以給你詳細的反饋,告訴你如何發音以及你需要改進什麼。
But when you do voice recordings, it's good to see the changes you make and the progress you make as you go. Record yourself again, saying the same sentence two weeks later after practicing and see if you've improved.
當你錄音的時候,很高興看到你所做的改變和你所取得的進步。在練習兩周後再錄一遍同樣的句子,看看你是否有進步。
Sing songs in a British accent. Talk to yourself in a British accent.
用英式口音唱歌。用英式口音自言自語。
There's this great technique I read about. For example, if somebody wants to quit smoking, the person needs to first identify themselves as a nonsmoker.
有個我曾經讀過的很棒的技巧。例如,如果有人想戒菸,他需要首先表明自己是不吸菸者。
So, why don't you do the same thing with pronunciation? Identify yourself as a British speaker, imagine you are, believe you are, and imagine that person you want to sound like, always have kind of one idol one person you want to sound like.
那麼,你為什麼不在發音上做同樣的事情呢?把自己想像成一個英國人,想像你是,相信你是,想像你想聽起來像一個英國人,內心要有一個偶像,希望自己聽起來像他那樣。
This technique doesn't work for everyone, but it is a great technique to try. So also, I need you to take your time.
雖然這種方法並不適用於所有人,但它是一種值得嘗試的好方法。還有,我需要你慢慢來。
Pronunciation is one of the longest improvements. Now there is one way to speed it up faster and that is invest.
提高發音是很耗時的。現在有一種方法可以加快這一進程,那就是投資。
Just like a business, if you want it to grow, you need to invest your time, you need to invest your money. Time. Find more time to improve your pronunciation.
就像生意一樣,如果你想讓它成長,你需要投入你的時間,你需要投入你的錢。時間。花更多的時間來改善你的發音。
Small amounts but often is usually what I recommend. You need to practice what you learn, so you need more time to do that.
通常我推薦少量多次。你需要練習你所學到的東西,所以你需要更多的時間去做。
Investing your money, join an online course. And the best thing about an online course, such as mine, it doesn't have to be mine, it will guide you in the right direction step by step and you'll learn the right things in the right order in detail.
投資你的錢,加入一個在線課程。在線課程最好的一點是,就像我的課程,不一定要選我的課,它會一步一步地為你指引正確的方向,你會以正確的順序詳細學習正確的東西。
And the extra bonus that comes with my course is that you can talk with me on whatsapp and I can guide you, evaluate your speech, and tell you where you need to go with your practice. So, an online course is definitely a very powerful option.
而我的課程帶來的額外好處是,你可以與我在 whatsapp 上交談,我可以指導你,評估你的口語,並告訴你需要怎麼練習。所以,在線課程絕對是一個非常給力的選擇。
For some people, it's not a good choice; for others, it is, but it's completely up to you. But the main thing is just to be brave, don't be afraid to practice, correct yourself.
對一些人來說,這不是一個好的選擇;對其他人來說,它是,但完全取決於你。但最重要的是要勇敢,不要害怕練習,糾正自己。
So, that's kind of my top tips for people who want to improve their pronunciation. It's a few techniques.
所以,這就是我給那些想要改善發音的人的建議。這是一些技巧。
Now, there are other techniques, there are many more techniques. But these are the ones which I would do, let's say.
還有其他的技巧,更多的技巧。但這些是我會做的。
These are probably the things that I would do and a few other options. So, I hope I did give you some useful advice today.
這些是我可能會做的事情和一些其他的選擇。所以,我希望今天我確實給了你們一些有用的建議。
