It's the best time of the week – the end of it. There are loads of great things to do in Shanghai this weekend, as well as watching the World Cup, of course. Read on for our top ten picks.


Wild Children

Seminal Chinese folk act Wild Children make a very welcome return to Shanghai, 22 years after their founding. After the loss of the group’s driving force Suo Wenjun to cancer in 2004 the band understandably went on a lengthy hiatus, but in recent years they』ve returned to the live stage and continued to deliver top-level performances. Now, they’re releasing a new album – hence this latest tour.

Sangria Friday with BottlesXO

From 7pm to 8.30pm at Zozzo Pizza, BottlesXO offers up bottomless sangria for 138RMB. Add a slice of pizza for 20RMB or a pick of a cured meats slicing station or porchetta paninis for 35RMB. After 8.30pm, a glass of sangria goes for 45RMB.

D-Force Summer Nights Series

This latest instalment from the Douban record label features Shanghai's own 33EMYBW and Gooooose - excellent solo projects from two members of Duck Fight Goose - plus PlayRec co-founder Wang Changcun, DuDu and RMBit. So basically some of the best alternative electronic music talent in the country right now, all on one night.

Movers and Shakers: Dante's Naren Young at the Ritz-Carlton

Every night until Monday, New York City's legendary Dante Naren (ranked 15th on The World's 50 Best Bar list in 2017) joins forces with five of China's best-known bartenders, Daniel An, Blacky Su, Phoebe Han, Yao Lu and Sam Kuan each presenting their original Campari-based signatures. For this pop-up, Naren will serve ten cocktails partly selected from Dante’s beverage menu and Negroni Sessions.

The 10th Kerry Craft Beer Festival

Kerry Hotel Pudong celebrates the best of craft beer by bringing over 30 of the city’s beer brands and food vendors together for a two-day fiesta under the skies in the Kerry Parkside courtyard with over 200 craft beers from over 30 domestic and international breweries. Vendors include local gems such as Boxing Cat, Tomatito, Doc Guthrie's, and tons more.

Most Girls Smell Good x Shade Seoul

Shade Seoul return to Shanghai, partnering with Most Girls Smell Good for a DADA takeover. DJs Ligrye, Net Gala, and Seesea are joined by drag queens Nana and Charlotte Goodenough and locally-based support from TOY, Amber Akilla, and Medusa mastermind Michael Cignarale.

Comedy UN presents Lincoln Daw: Above the Fray

Australian comic Lincoln Daw is leaving Shanghai and is looking to go out on a high with his Comedy UN headline show Above the Fray. Support comes from Kyrie Gray, Ian Badenhorst, Patrick Lozada and host Storm Xu.

John Acquaviva

Run in Blue for Down Syndrome Rehabilitation

The Rotaract Club of Shanghai is back with its annual 5k charity run on June 30 at Century Park. This year, Run in Blue is partnering with the Sweet Challenge to support YBC Healthcare's Down Syndrome Rehabilitation program. Come kick off your morning with a fun jog while supporting a great cause.
