◆ 象館的「館」，虎山的「山」，英文怎麼說？
◆ 動物園的牌子上寫的都是拉丁文，想說通俗的英文怎麼辦？
◆ 禁止翻越欄杆、禁止餵食，英文怎麼說？
動物園佔地面積通常都比較大，帶寶寶去，主要是讓寶寶親眼見到這些動物，如果希望將每一個動物細細科普，不僅我們沒有那樣的知識儲備，時間上也不允許。因此，我們認為，如果希望逛動物園時，和寶寶全程說英文，只需掌握這三類詞彙：
一、場館名稱
文章結尾附錄中列出了我們對34個北京動物園場館的獨家英文翻譯。
二、動物大類
場館的名稱也反映了動物大類的名稱，文章同時給予了一些解釋。
三、禁止事項
更多和孩子的互動，看下面的這對母女怎麼說：
VISITING THE ZOO
去動物園
Mom: Look, we are at the zoo!
媽媽：看，咱們到動物園了！
Child: I am so excited, Mommy!
寶寶：我太激動了，媽媽！
We get to see the elephants and giraffes.
我們能看大象和長頸鹿了。
Mom: Okay, let's look at this map
媽媽：好啊，咱們看看這張地圖，
and see where they are.
看看它們在哪兒。
We are here at the main entrance,
我們在正門這兒，
and the elephants and giraffes are over there in the Africa area.
大象和長頸鹿在那邊的非洲區。
非洲區用Africa area或者African area都是可以的。
So we need to follow this pathway and follow the signs.
所以咱們得沿著這條路，按照路標走。
Child: Mommy, can we take the shuttle or rent a tandem?
寶寶：媽媽，咱們能坐觀光車或者租一個多人自行車嗎？
Shuttle指穿梭於幾個地點間的班車，英文裡不體現「觀光」的含義。
Mom: Actually, why don't we rent a buggy?
媽媽：對了，咱們租一個四輪自行車吧。
It's perfect for a family.
它最適合一家人。
At the Giraffe House 在長頸鹿館
Child: Mommy, I can see the giraffes!
寶寶：媽媽，我能看見長頸鹿啦！
They are so tall!
它們好高啊！
Can I climb on the fence so I can see better?
我能爬到欄杆上看得清楚點嗎？
Mom: No! Look, there is a sign that says,
媽媽：不行！看，那有個牌子寫著，
"Please do not climb on the fence".
「禁止爬欄杆」。
Child: Why, Mommy?
寶寶：為什麼啊，媽媽？
Mom: It is dangerous.
媽媽：這很危險的。
They are still wild animals,
它們依舊是野生動物，
and they could hurt you.
會傷害到你的。
They live in these enclosures that are specially designed
它們生活在這些特別設計的封閉區域裡，
to look like their natural habitats.
這裡看起來和它們的自然棲息地一樣。
For example, giraffes live in the grasslands in Africa
比如，長頸鹿生活在非洲的大草原，
so that is why they are in a grassy field here.
這就是為什麼它們生活在這裡的草地上。
At the Eelephant House 在大象館
Child: Can we see the elephants now?
寶寶：我們現在能去看大象嗎？
Mom: Yes. Let's look at the map again
媽媽：嗯。咱們再看看地圖，
and find where the elephant house is.
看看象館在哪兒。
Child: Look at their long trunks and big ears!
寶寶：看看它們的長鼻子和大耳朵啊！
Can I feed them?
我能餵它們嗎？
Mom: No, we can only look at them.
媽媽：不行的，我們只能看看它們。
Pay attention to the signs that say
注意這個牌子寫著
"Do Not Feed".
「請勿餵食」。
They need special food.
它們需要專門的食物。
The zookeepers give them their food.
動物園飼養員會給它們食物。
Here comes the elephant.
大象過來了。
Wave to it!
衝它招招手！
At the Monkey Enclosure 在猴山
Mom: Shall we go see the monkeys now?
媽媽：咱們現在去看猴子吧？
They live in the monkey enclosure
它們生活在猴山，
英文裡不用hill、mountain表示動物園裡的山類場地，enclosure表示以露天為主的動物園場地。
and have trees to climb
那兒有樹可以爬，
and ropes to swing on!
還有繩子可以蕩鞦韆！
Child: Mommy, I can't see them.
寶寶：媽媽，我看不見它們啊。
Mom: Look up into that tree,
媽媽：往上看那棵樹，
there is one up there!
那兒有一隻！
Child: I see him!
寶寶：我看見了！
He is so cute!
它太可愛了！
What is he eating?
它在吃什麼呢？
Mom: I'm not sure,
媽媽：我也不知道，
but I know they like to eat bananas.
不過我知道它們喜歡吃香蕉。
At the Lion & Tiger Enclosure 在獅虎山
Child: Mommy, does the zoo have lions?
寶寶：媽媽，這個動物園有獅子嗎？
I want to see a big lion go roar!
我要看怒吼的大獅子。
Mommy: Yes, they do.
媽媽：嗯，有的。
They are in the lion and tiger enclosure.
它們在獅虎山。
Child: Yes, please!
寶寶：嗯，那去吧！
Look, this lion is napping in the den.
看，這隻獅子在洞裡打盹呢。
Den：動物巢穴，這裡亦可用cave。
Oh wow, look at that female up there on that big rock.
哇哦，看石頭上的那隻母的。
She just yawned and showed off all of her big teeth!
她剛打了個哈欠，露出巨大的牙齒。
Mommy: She is very big and very dangerous.
媽媽：她很大，而且很危險。
What sound does a lion make?
獅子怎麼叫？
Child: A lion goes roar.
寶寶：獅子這麼叫，嗷~
Mommy: Yes.
媽媽：是的。
It's time to go home now.
現在該回家了。
Have you had fun looking at the animals today?
你今天看了一天動物開心嗎？
Child: I have, Mommy!
寶寶：開心，媽媽！
I want to come back tomorrow and see the hippos!
我想明天再回來看河馬！

West Crane Island 西鶴島
Deer Yard 鹿苑
Yard和「苑」很對應，指的是動物場館中露天的部分。
Langur House 葉猴館
Langur讀作 [l'gu]，是葉猴屬的英文。Leaf monkey也翻譯為葉猴，是葉猴屬下的一種動物。
Mandrill House 山魈館
Penguin House 企鵝館
Otter Exhibit 水獺展區
Exhibit讀作 [iɡ'zibit]，對應中文的「展區」，可能是室內，也可能是室外的，或者有室內室外兩部分。
Petting Zoo 兒童動物園
翻譯成children's zoo也是可以接受的，但是petting zoo這個說法更地道，字面意思是小朋友可以摸摸小動物的園中園。
Giraffe House 長頸鹿館
Ape House 猩猩館
猩猩也叫人猿，英文是ape，下面還細分成gorilla-黃猩猩、chimpanzee-黑猩猩等。
Golden Snub-nosed Monkey House 金絲猴館
Snub-nosed體現了金絲猴翹鼻子的特點。
Tropical Small Monkey House 熱帶小猴館
Amphibian and Reptile House 兩棲爬行動物館
Amphibian讀作 [m'fibin]。
African Animal Area 非洲動物區
地圖上本身寫的African Animals是非常地道的英文標註，美國動物園也是這樣寫。但如果說去哪裡，可以加上area，並把前面的animal恢復到單數形式。
(Science) Education Center 科普館
Education center是英語裡比較常用的說法，但在前面加上science，與「科普」更對應，也是可以的。
Aviary 鳥苑
Aviary讀作 ['eiviri]。
Crested Ibis House 朱䴉館
Ibis讀作 ['aibis]。
Flamingo House 火烈鳥館
Mew 鷹山
Mew在英式英語裡指馬廄，但在美式英語裡指鷹山，適用於hawks、eagles等多種鷹類。
Rhino and Hippo House 犀牛河馬館
American Animal Trail 美洲動物區
Trail指崎嶇小路，這樣的名字更生動，也可以用area一詞直譯「區」。
Tapir House 貘館
Tapir讀作 ['teip]。
Waterfowl Lake 水禽湖
Waterfowl讀作 [wtfaul]。
Elephant House 象館
Australian Animal Walkabout 澳洲動物區
Walkabout是指代澳洲叢林的專有名詞，這樣的名字更生動，也可以用area一詞直譯「區」。
Beijing Aquarium 北京海洋館
Aquarium讀作 ['kwrim]。
Lion and Tiger Enclosure 獅虎山
Nocturnal Animal House 夜行動物館
Giant Panda House 大熊貓館
亦可省略giant。
Animal Nursery 育幼室
Pheasant Yard 雉雞苑
Felid House 貓科動物館
Felid讀作 ['fi:lid]。
Bear Enclosure 熊山
