Typhoon [ta'fun] 颱風——A tropical cyclone occurring in the western Pacific or Indian oceans
Hurricane ['hrkn] 颶風——A severe tropical cyclone , originating in the equatorial regions of the Atlantic Ocean or Caribbean Sea or eastern regions of the Pacific Ocean, traveling north, northwest, or northeast from its point of origin, and usually involving heavy rains.
「颱風」和「颶風」都是「熱帶氣旋（tropical cyclone）」的一種。
一般來說，在大西洋上生成的熱帶氣旋被稱作颶風，而在太平洋上生成的熱帶氣旋被稱作颱風。
颱風假 Typhoon Holiday
所謂"颱風假"，即是當颱風在本地或附近登陸，將嚴重影響本地區，導致當地教育局和氣象局聯合發出中小學停課的通知。這樣的"假期"，就叫"颱風假"。
P.S. hurricane lockout 也可以表示颱風假哦~
lockout n. 閉廠，停工，關在門外，停擺（是體育界的特有名詞，就是指因為各種原因造成體育聯賽暫停的局面。）
