Applicant: Marvelous! How does it look? Do you think that I will receive a scholarship?

1.「on one's own」表示「獨自地，獨立地」，與下文的「by oneself」同義。另外，還可以表示「主動地，自願地」，例如：Ever since
her father's death，Mary had been on her own.(自從她父親死後，瑪麗一直靠自己獨立生活。)
2.「pop up」是俚語，意思是「(意外地、突然地)出現，發生」。例如 : Your name has popped up from time to time in the
papers. (你的名字不時地出現在報紙上。)
3.「go this route」是俚語，意思是「用這個方法，走這條路」，相當於「use this method」，注意「route」有兩種發音：[ru:t]和[raut]。
