other than在具體的上下文中有四種含義。
other than作「除外」解時，常可同no，not，never，nothing，hardly等連用。
other than後可接代詞、名詞、副詞或不定式（other than前的謂語動詞為do時，不定式不帶to，否則要帶to）。
1.除外，除了
He hasn't anything leftother than these books. 除了這些書，他什麼也沒有剩下。
There was nothing they could doother than spend the night in the temple. 他們的夜晚，除了呆在寺廟裡面之外，什麼也不能做。(不帶to的不定式)
There was no choiceother than to walk on against the wind. 除了頂風前行，沒有其他的選擇。（帶to的不定式）
Other thanthis，I know nothing about it. 除了這個，我什麼都不知道。（代詞）
2.不是
She bought some booksother than novels. 她買了幾本書，但都不是小說。
3.只能，只有
She could do no other thansmile. 她只能笑笑。
4.與……不同
She can't doother than I have done. 他能做的同我已經做的不會不同。
