The British theoretical physicist was known for his groundbreaking work with black holes and relativity, and was the author of several popular science books including A Brief History of Time.

《與霍金一起了解宇宙》這紀錄片耗3年多製作，期間霍金曾多次堅持對劇本作大幅修改。Discovery執行製作人史密森(John Smithson)說，他希望能製作一個既能娛樂大眾、又能娛樂科學界的節目。
本片共分三集，第一第二集都是四十五分鐘左右，最後一集比較長，80多分鐘。三部的內容分別是，外星人，時間旅行，一切的故事。武老師最喜歡的是最後一集，因為它不僅像前兩集一樣有意思，而且在此之外還可以給我們很多啟示。
