加拿大艾芬豪礦業公司計劃開採幾內亞寧巴山鐵礦
瑞士媒體《Agence Ecofin》5月17日援引彭博社的消息報導， 加拿大億萬富豪、加拿大艾芬豪礦業公司Ivanhoe Mines老闆羅伯特.弗裡德蘭德（Robert Friedland）有意開採幾內亞寧巴山鐵礦石 （Mont Nimba）。
弗裡德蘭德正在與澳大利亞必和必拓集團（BHP），紐蒙特黃金公司Newmont Goldcorp和阿雷瓦公司 Areva進行深入談判，這幾家公司探討開採幾內亞寧巴山鐵礦（Nimba）的合作模式。

2018年6月，中信金屬集團與在加拿大上市的艾芬豪礦業（Ivanhoe Mines）達成協議，將以7.23億加元（5.6億美元）購入該公司19.9的股權。完成交易後中信將成為艾芬豪最大單一股東，該集團主席Robert Firedland將以17%的持股退居第二大股東。
艾芬豪在剛果（金）的Kamoa-Kakula項目在世界十大銅礦床中擁有最高的銅品位。根據協議，每股認購價為3.68加元，較艾芬豪上周五收市價有14%溢價，共收購1.966億股。
中信金屬集團還將向艾芬豪提供1億美元貸款，來發展其在南部非洲的項目。
此外，現持有艾芬豪9.9%股權的中國股東紫金礦業集團擁有反稀釋權，如果跟進配股，所需資金約7800萬加元（6000萬美元）。

(Agence Ecofin) - L』homme d』affaires Robert Friedland ，un des patrons de la compagnie canadienne Ivanhoe Mines, serait sur le point de conclure un accord pour reprendre un gisement de minerai de fer en Guinée. C』est ce que rapporte, cette semaine, Bloomberg qui cite des sources proches du dossier, précisant que les négociations se déroulent par l』intermédiaire de son groupe High Power Exploration.
M. Friedland serait ainsi en pourparlers avancés avec les propriétaires du gisement de fer du mont Nimba, qui comprennent BHP, Newmont Goldcorp et Areva.
Il faut noter que le projet n』a pas été développé depuis des années et il est donc peu probable que ses actuels propriétaires le vendent à une somme importante.
D』après les sources de Bloomberg, Mick Davis, qui cherche à développer la mine voisine de Zogota, par le biais de son véhicule d』investissement Niron Metals, s』intéresse également au projet du Mont Nimba.
Une arrivée de Robert Friedland dans le secteur du fer guinéen pourrait être une bonne nouvelle pour le pays qui possède de grandes réserves du minerai, mais n』en a jamais exporté une tonne. M. Friedland et sa compagnie Ivanhoe Mines sont à l』origine de plusieurs importantes découvertes minérales au monde, y compris des gisements de cuivre en RDC (Kamoa-Kakula).

LONDON: Billionaire mining investor Robert Friedland is close to a deal to take over an iron ore deposit in Guinea from owners including BHP Group, according to people familiar with the situation.
Friedland is in advanced talks with BHP, Newmont Goldcorp Corp. and Areva SA, that will see him move to develop the Nimba deposit on Guinea’s border with Liberia, said the people, who asked not to be identified as the talks are private. A final deal has yet to be agreed, the people said.
The project has sat undeveloped for years. It’s unlikely the current owners will receive a significant sum for the asset, but will probably hold an interest should the mine be developed.
Mick Davis, who is seeking to develop a neighboring iron ore mine through his Niron Metals vehicle, is also interested in the project, according to people familiar with the situation. The deal is likely to require government approval.
Spokesmen for BHP, Newmont and Niron declined to comment. Friedland also declined to comment.
While Guinea has some of the world’s richest iron ore deposits, including the fabled Simandou mine that Rio Tinto Group, Vale SA and billionaire Beny Steinmetz have fought over for years, it has never exported a ton.
One of the major obstacles has been the cost of building a railway to export out of Guinea, rather than using a much shorter route through Liberia. Steinmetz and Guinea agreed to end their dispute earlier this year.
Key to developing Nimba would be getting access to a rail line operated by ArcelorMittal, which has its own iron ore mine across the border in Liberia. ArcelorMittal has said it would let other companies use it, assuming there’s spare capacity or they pay for upgrades.
Niron won permission from Liberia and Guinea to export on that route last month.
Friedland has made some of the biggest mineral discoveries in the world over the past few decades, including copper deposits in Mongolia and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The talks over the Guinea iron ore deposit are taking place through his High Power Exploration group, one of the people said. - Bloomberg
