每次疫情放緩、措施放寬，總有專家警告疫情有機會迅速反彈（rebound），呼籲市民儘量減少外出和不必要的聚會。但是我們或許仍要持續抗疫一年半載，學懂如何在新常態中正常生活，加強注意衛生更為重要。
Rebound一字由字首re-和字根bound組成，re-解「再次」，bound解「跳躍」，合起來指「反彈」。
例如，
The rubber ball rebounds to one-third of the height from which it has fallen.
橡膠球反彈到它掉落的高度的三分之一。
Rebound除了指物件反彈，也可以指數字、價格「反彈、回升」。

Rebound還可以指「適得其反、產生相反效果、使某人自食其果」。
例如，
His constant bluffing rebounded on him because no one believed his estimation was accurate any more.
