On August 29, the "Big Mac" precast box girder- SW4-3 box girder of the Tseung Kwan O Bay Bridge Project in Hong Kong was successfully hoisted. Lin Shixiong, Permanent Secretary of the Hong Kong Development Bureau, and Liu Junjie, Director of the Civil Engineering and Development Department of Hong Kong, visited the construction site of the Project and witnessed the box girder hoisting process. They highly appreciated the Project in overcoming the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and successfully completing the first stage of the precast box girder installation on schedule.
The SW4-3 box girder installed this time has a length of 75 meters and a single weight of 3285 tons, which is the longest and the heaviest precast box girder installed at home and abroad according to the "full-hole hoisting" method. The hoisting construction started on time at 7:30 in the morning of that day, and the installation was completed smoothly at 11:30 after such steps as positioning the beam carrier, installing the sling, lifting, dropping the beam and precise adjustment.
The installation of the box girder was affected by the typhoon 「Higos」. The project department worked hard for several days and nights in various links such as box girder roll-roll loading, marine transportation, and on-site installation preparation. The box girder was successfully hoisted on the 「window date」 of 29th. The successful installation of the SW4-3 box girder marked the successful completion of the first round of precast box girder installation goal of the bridge project, and provided a solid guarantee for the realization of the overall project progress goal.
