The Shanghai and Hong Kong stock exchanges will launch cross-board trading on Nov. 17, according to a joint statement released on Monday by mainland and HK securities authorities.

The announcement was long awaited after a tentative launch date in late October was postponed amid the Occupy Central protests in Hong Kong.

「The necessary approvals and authorizations have been granted by the relevant regulators,」 The bourse operator Hong Kong Exchange and Clearing Company said in an announcement on Monday.

The Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect will allow mainland and overseas investors to gain direct access to the two stock markets.

Yet, analysts have still expressed concerns about possible regulatory problems through the cross-board stock trading, because there are many differences between the two markets. Watch this video to find out more.
