In the premiere of this unprecedented collaboration, Bon Iver and the electrifying contemporary dance company TU Dance come together with choreography by Uri Sands and new music by Justin Vernon.
Bon Iver’s 「rustic chamber pop with an experimental edge」 (Pitchfork) and 「hyper-modern balladeering」 (The Guardian) has garnered Grammy Awards and significant international acclaim, and Saint Paul, Minnesota’s nine-member TU Dance navigates complex themes of social change, drawing together modern dance and classical ballet with African-based and urban vernacular movements.
Titled 「Come Through,」 this fusion of Bon Iver’s music and contemporary dance officially premiered last April, but will see a forthcoming staging on August 5th, 2018, in Los Angeles.

The new songs include 「Naeem 2」, a tribalistic, 7-minute cut featuring auto-tuned vocals; 「SDIAH」, which is drenched in saxophone and Vernon’s yelping vocals; and what’s described as an 「excerpt」 of 「1867,」 a tender, acoustic ballad that evokes Bon Iver’s breakout, For Emma, Forever Ago.
As of now, no further performances have been announced. But in a rare interview with Eau Claire magazine/website Volume One, Bon Iver’s Vernon said they were planning to stage it 「around the world a few times the next couple of years, for sure.」
We can only hope they'll come to China. Probably Hong Kong.
But Vernon also said he doesn’t know if the original music he wrote for the work will be released elsewhere 「because it’s so tied to this performance of the dance.」
He added that he enjoyed the collaboration and the fact he wasn’t the one in the driver’s seat: 「I felt a really new kind of reward after it because of the hard work… all I had was an opportunity to do something new, and it felt like just as exciting as like making the first (Bon Iver) album.」
