今天（美國時間12月14日），在美國，538個選舉人團成員將在其所代表的州的首府舉行會議，正式投出手中的選票。
美國的總統選舉是複雜的，因為選民是間接選出他們的下一任總統。
不同於其他聯邦官員的選舉，根據美國憲法，總統選舉交由一群被稱為選舉人團的人決定。
當一名選民為某一位總統候選人投下選票時，他們實際上在為選舉人投票，由選舉人在選舉人團中代表他們。
各州選民選出的選舉人數目各有不同，取決其所在州的人口規模。
因此，總統大選是由選民通過選舉人團一個州一個州來決定的。
為什麼美國要通過選舉人團制度而非普選票來選出總統呢？
美國歷史上曾經需要由國會裁決的三次總統選舉 講的是美國歷史上出現過三次選舉人團常規投票後國會介入的情況。

2021年1月6日，國會舉行聯席會議，計算選舉人票（除非國會通過法律更改這一日期）。
2021年1月20日，當選總統宣誓就任美國總統。

Today (Dec. 14) in the U.S., the 538 members of the Electoral College will meet in their respective state capitals to officially cast their ballots.
Presidential elections in the United States are complex because voters indirectly choose their next president. Unlike elections for other federal offices, the U.S. Constitution places the election of the President in the hands of a group of people called the Electoral College. When a voter casts a ballot for a particular presidential candidate, they are really voting for Electors to represent them in the Electoral College. Voters in different states elect differing numbers of Electors, depending on the size of their state’s population. The presidential election is therefore decided by voters state by state, through the Electoral College.
