I have been in Milano for the whole week to visit the Milan Furniture Fair - Salone Internazionale del Mobile.
As you well know, if you have ever experienced this week in Milan, the entire city becomes its own event, an open-air museum, an installation, and a meeting place for thousands of buyers, designers and exhibitors who all work in the furniture business. It is a great chance to see Italian design at its best!
The "official location" of the Fair is in the new fairgrounds in Rho, a beautiful airy structure designed by the Italian architect, Massimiliano Fuksas. The Milan Fair includes the Domestic and Contract Furniture areas, Accessories, Kitchens, Office Furniture Systems and Bathroom Furniture, so I have dedicated two full days so curious to see the trends ! 「14 Exhibitors ( 176 Italian and 38 foreighers ) over 19.000 square meters of show !
In fact, the events and exhibits are not confined to that area of the city. DESIGN is everywhere! There are of course a few areas of the city that have become a kind of "magnet" and draw the attention of the design crowd. One of these is the Zona Tortona.
I absolutely loved my visit to the Armani / Silos. 40 years of Fashion by Giorgio Armani!
The museum had a huge range of collections and accessories to look at spread across 4 spacious floors.
Being in Milano made me believing that the challenge for business is to compete on the basis of unique value!
Milano shows how developed countries around the world have recognised that success in the future will come from business increasing the added value from their products , processes and services.
The creativity and inventiveness of Italian is a big asset and in an increasingly global world , the ability to invent , design and manufacture the goods and services that people wants is more vital to Italian future prosperity than ever. Thanks Milano to exist!
I have been touched about the qualiy of manufacture to saveguard and deliver high – quality standard . A show where the key point was showing industries that have invested heavily in Research & Development to compete successfully in the global economy and market.
I was in the best platform for cutting edge products and solutions and a real hub of ideas, creativity, innovation, technology, design and out of the box thinking , underscoring Mlan’s role as the capital of design.
My feeling was elegance of timeless luxury renovated in a contemporary key. Many manufactures, who started off producing classical or design products, have embraced this new typology, which represent the synthesis of the two categories, making for linear products embellished with details , finishing and warmer, softer materials. There is a strong presence of leading fashion brands.
The environment is what surrounds us every minute of daily life. It is no longer limited to Home Sweet Home!
The places we pass through or pause for a quick meal or a grand reception, places for work and/or entertainment, private or collective, interior or exterior, designed for one person or for several…
In Milano we go through many ideas and concept design, we can see how we can modulate a space to spend time in them every day of our lives. We feel that the design take care a lot of it, that the any show and product is perfectly set and placed with precise logic that correspond to us and fulfill all our need sand desires! Innovation and design features and proposes 4 new lifestyles to renew products and storytelling: purenature or alternative and fun, classic but modern or exotic and refined.
We can feel , see and touch a great material experimentation and the study of patterns and shapes. 『what impresses me about herringbones is the concept of perpetual pattern, recurring pattern, pattern of patterns, that is what covers the surrounding world, no matter if in a planned or casual way, by transforming it in another world, combining any possible shape or pattern.』
The colors themselves are often close to nature, and enhanced with myriad effects: the mineral shades of sands, terracottas and browns . the many vegetal greens in all tone heights, and the fruit and flower tones found in the warmer nuances .
Pinks, which are not as orange as previous seasons, tend towards blue and mauve, while blues gravitate towards lavender. The entire palette is rich, and even when it seems sober and just graphic: like an interlude that calms the season, it is expressed subtly and meticulously.
I have been fashinated also by the SaloneSatellite for new design talents.
It is a very interesting place where 650 designers and neo graduants at international schools over 2800 square meters face the world of design.
Concerning the ceramic town development the fair is a great opportunity to have all the information we need to follow the trend but I think it is a guide to improve the quality of manufacture and the branding.
The fair in Milano shows the way to work about how important is to improve the quality and the design of the products.
You see many competences and capabilities in each booths , so that the customer service is professional . friendly, competitive and relevant to the customers. It is targeting the added value that the Made in Italy has still reconfirm to all in this wornderfull design exhibition.
Customer care is made by professional people and not by simple vendors . This people standing in the Company booths are taking care of their product . They are able to make the customer have a relevant clear information about te product proposal. This is the key of innovation .
Finally . the design is an exciting, constantly evolving field. It also takes a lot of work and great capacity to interpretate the trend . If you want to become a successful in your activity , you have always a long road ahead of you, but there are some straightforward steps you can take to keep your process turned on : do not miss Milano Design Week !
