Harry剛在決鬥臺上用人類理解不了的語言逼退一條蛇後，
全場都籠罩在了詭異的氛圍之中。
害怕與震驚交織在學生們的心中，全都愣愣地看著harry，良久不得平復。
Harry一下臺，羅恩和赫敏便立即飛奔過來。
羅恩追上harry，一拍他的肩膀「you are Parselmouth（蛇語者）！Why didn't you tell us？」
「I am what？」harry本人很疑惑。
「you can talk to the snake.」赫敏解釋道。
Harry看著面前來質問的二人，答道「I know.」這樣答似乎有故意不告訴他們的嫌疑，於是急急忙忙補充著「I mean，I accidentally set a python on my cousin Dudley at the zoo once」
（accidentally意外地）（python蟒蛇）
「once」harry強調著，「but so what？」
（once就一次）（so what一般嗆聲用的，表示「那又怎麼了」）
「I bet loads of people here can do it.」畢竟是魔法世界，什麼能人異士找不到。能跟蛇溝通的人肯定也大把存在，harry這樣篤信著。
（bet動詞打賭）
（loads of與 lots of同義,可用來修飾可數名詞或不可數名詞）
「no，they can't，harry」赫敏一句否定讓harry有些不知所措，「it's not a very common gift，harry」
（gift除了禮物還有天賦的意思）
這不是普通的天賦，本來應該是誇獎的話語，到harry這裡怎麼令人害怕。
「it's bad」赫敏說道。
Harry不以為然，「what’s bad？If I hadn't told that snake not to attack Justin...」
（虛擬語氣上線，與過去的事實相反if條件句用had done）
「that's what you said to it」羅恩突然打斷harry的話。
羅恩當時就站在他的不遠處，應該聽到了他的話才對。
「I heard you speaking Parseltongue.Snake language」羅恩盯著harry的雙眼道。
「I spoke a different language？」harry發出疑問。
怎麼可能？我說的不是人話嗎？
但看著羅恩小雞啄米式的點頭，harry自己也震驚了，
「how can I speak a language without knowing I can?」
赫敏出身道 「I don'tknow,Harry.Butitsoundedlikeyouwereeggingthesnakeonorsomething.」
（egg作為動詞的時候是慫恿的意思）
（聽起來，你像是在慫恿那條蛇攻擊）
「Harry,listentome.There'sa reasonthesymbolofSlytherinHouseisaserpent.SlytherinwasaParselmouth.Hecouldtalktosnakes,too.」
（serpent蛇）
斯萊特林的創始人也是蛇腔佬？
Harry也會蛇語。
他們之間...
羅恩給出了答案
「Andnowthewholeschool'sgonnatothinkyou'rehisgreat-great-greatgrandsonorsomething.」
「ButI'mnot.」harry非常堅定地回答，但隨後又不確定了「Ican'tbe.」
「Helivedathousandyearsago.Forallweknow...youcouldbe.」赫敏的話，讓harry的心情跌到了谷底。
自此Harry開始不確定自己的身份，經常坐在湖畔邊上發呆。
自習課上，harry常常感受到周圍學生的視線，等他回望回去，那些學生又都收回了視線。
反覆幾次，
他甚至看到了金妮也在望著他。
Harry有些受不了教室裡針對他的壓抑氣氛，收拾書本，便要回去。
在經過走廊時，突然又折回來，透過窗戶觀察教室裡的情況。
果然讓他聽到了一些對他不怎麼友好的話語。
一個男孩壓低聲音說「so anyway，I told Justin to hide up in our dormitory. I mean to say, if Potter's marked him down as his next victim, it's best he keeps a low profile for awhile. 」
（如果harry把他視為下一個獵物，要幹掉他的話，他最好這段時間低調點）
（keep a low profile保持低調）
「why would you think he will attack Justin?」一個梳著金色馬尾辮的姑娘急切地問。
「he let slip to Potter he was Muggle-born.」男孩回道。
（let slip 無意中洩露秘密）
「You definitely think Potter is the heir of Slytherin？」
「漢娜，」大男孩嚴肅地說，「他是蛇佬腔。
「Everyone knows that's the mark of a dark wizard.」
（大家都知道，這是黑巫師的標誌。）
Have you ever heard of a decent one who could talk to snakes?
（你難道聽說過哪個正派巫師能跟蛇說話嗎？）
躲在窗戶旁邊偷聽的harry，慢慢憤怒了。
他怎麼會攻擊Justin，他怎麼會是黑巫師。
不過下一秒，他有些欣慰。因為女孩說「harry always seems so nice，though」「and after all，he’s the one who made You-Know-Who disappear.」

「That’s probably why You-Know-Who wanted to kill him in the first place. Didn’t want another Dark Lord competing with him.」
（in the first place第一個）
聽到這裡，harry轉身就走了。
他在霍格沃茲學生心裡的形象越來越糟糕了。
幾天前還在猜測斯萊特林的繼承人還是馬爾福，怎麼一下子揣測都到了他身上。
Harry正憂心忡忡著，突然碰到了海格。
