主講人簡介
主講人：John Beck, 大學申學部門總監，副總裁，途西教育
John獲達特茅斯學院文學學士學位，專業為政府管理，主修國際關係，輔修環境研究。就讀期間，他是Dickey中心戰爭與和平會員(Dickey Center War and Peace Fellow)，並在洛克菲勒公共政策中心擔任高級領導力成員。John曾任達特茅斯招生辦公室高級助理主任，負責美國學生和國際學生(中東和南亞)的招生和甄選，也曾在印度、中國、東南亞旅遊。在達特茅斯學院最後一年，他擔任國際招生經理，監管達特茅斯學院全部國際申請人的甄選流程。John希望通過講座讓國際學生更好的為美國名校的申請做好準備。

Writing the Exceptional College Essay: Advice from a Former Ivy League Admissions Officer
What if we told you that on average, a student who applies to 10 American Universities has to write 25 supplemental essays PLUS a well-crafted personal statement – and that they’re all equally important? What if we told you that the same essay, submitted by two different students, could be disastrous for one, but help the other student get into his or her dream school? And what if we told you that these application essays are your only opportunity to uniquely express your self-awareness, creativity, and personal values to admissions officers?
Here at Due West, we can’t emphasize enough the importance of your essays in the college application process. But it’s tough to get your essays perfect. It requires a lot of reflection, self-scrutiny, and (of course) drafting and re-drafting to craft the elegant essays that will earn you admission to top schools on your list, especially with college deadlines looming around the corner.
Let us guide you along in this process! We invite parents to join us for open talks on how students should be crafting their application essays. Hear from former Dartmouth admissions officer, John Beck, on what college admissions committees look for in an applicant’s writing. Also, learn how Due West’s team of former admissions officers from top schools – such as Yale, Columbia, UChicago, Carleton, Tufts – work with students to create their application stories and help them craft a unique voice through essay writing.
During the presentation, we will unveil the essay supplements to Top 30 Colleges and Universities, offering tips on how students should approach them.
We will also discuss the relative merits of applications to Early Action and Early Decision schools ( typically due between October 1 and November 15 ).

John Beck: Director of College Prep, Vice-President, Due West Education
John holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government with a focus on International Relations and a minor in Environmental Studies from Dartmouth College. At Dartmouth, he was a Dickey Center War and Peace Fellow and a Senior Leadership Fellow at the Rockefeller Center of Public Policy. John worked as a Senior Assistant Director at the Dartmouth Admissions Office, where he was responsible for both U.S. and international ( Middle East and South Asia ) recruitment and selection, which included travel to India, China, and Southeast Asia. In his final year with Dartmouth, John served as the International Recruitment Manager, overseeing the selection process for all of Dartmouth’s international applicants.
