增城譽德萊國際學校第十九周教學工作總結
INTRO
We enter the final week before the Chinese New Year holiday starts invigorated but also slightly exhausted as last week we hosted around 350 delegates from 13 different international schools. These student delegates descended on UISZ for our Seventh Annual U2NESCO Model United Nations Conference. The conference was held from January 9-11 on our campus and saw students engage in debate surrounding this year's theme of "Protecting the Past - Facing the Future".

大家即懷著期盼的心情迎接新春假期的到來,同時也略顯疲憊。因為上周我們接待了來自13所國際學校的350多名師生代表。歡迎他們前來我校參加第7屆香港教科文組織模擬聯合國會議。這次會議於1月9日-1月11日在我校舉辦,同學們圍繞著「保護過去-面向未來」的主題展開了激烈地辯論。
This event is always one of the highlights of the UISZ calendar. Huge thanks to this year's Secretary-General Jessica Kang for organizing this event.
這次活動是增城譽德萊國際學校校歷上高光時刻之一,非常感謝今年的秘書長Jessica Kang 組織本次活動。
The event kicked off on Thursday with opening ceremonies highlighted by a guest speech by Ms. Jen Wang of Cliff Haus. She spoke about the importance of protecting our past and she discussed some of the work she is doing up in Yingde.
活動在上周四正式拉開帷幕,涯際創始人王展女士在開幕式上發表了精彩演講。她談及了保護我們過去歷史文化的重要性,並且分享了她目前在英德開展的活動項目。
After the opening ceremonies, the students went into their committee rooms and started the process of debating and resolution writing. The conference concluded on Saturday with closing ceremonies where delegates were highlighted for their hard work over the three days. Even though there was a large group of students that attended some of UISZ's students earned honors during the conference.
開幕式結束後,學生們陸續進入了他們的委員會,開始精彩的辯論和決議。會議在周六的閉幕式後圓滿結束,在閉幕式上,學生代表們重點回顧了他們三天來的辛勤勞動成果。增城譽德萊國際學校大部分的學生都參與了這次活動,有部分學生榮獲殊榮。獲獎者名單如下:

PRIMARY
Meanwhile this week in Mr Avdoo’s PYP Year 4 class students have just started their new unit on 『Energy』. Students were told that they were energy detectives working for an engineering firm that does energy evaluations on schools. The engineering firm needs to know where the different sources of energy are within the school. In small groups, students went in search of evidence that will help them find energy sources.

小學部4年級的老師Avdoo與他的學生們在本周開始了最新探究單元「能源」的學習。學生們被告知他們將會扮演能源偵探,在一家為學校作能源評估的工程公司工作。工程公司需要了解學校裡不同能源配置的具體位置。學生們分組去尋找能夠幫助他們找到能源的理論證據。
MYP
This week also saw MYP students busily completing their inter-disciplinary projects around the secondary building in collaborative groups. In Mr John’s Year 9 class students continued developing their IDU in Language A and Sciences "The real science of science fiction". This week they chose a movie from a choice of four to analyse: Star Trek, Back to the Future, Jurassic Park and The Wandering Earth. Students had to identify the science concepts behind the movie. They then needed to contemplate if it was possible and how relatable to real life. They had to support their opinions with current examples. Their summative assessment was on Thursday with each student presenting. their work.

本周,我們也看到了初中部的學生們以小組為單位正忙於他們跨學科項目的學習。在9年級 John老師的班級上,學生們繼續開展他們的語言A和科學的跨學科項目,主題為:「科幻小說中的真正科學」。本周,他們可以自己選擇以下4部電影中的一部進行分析:《星際迷航》、《回到未來》、《侏羅紀公園》和《流浪地球》。學生們需要找出隱藏在電影中的科學概念,然後考慮它的可能性,以及如何聯繫實際。他們必須用現有的事例來支持自己的觀點。本周四他們進行了期末評估並展示了相關研究。

In Mr Rezart’s Year 11 DP Physics class students were studying the periodic phenomena and waves this week. They were using visual representations and models as well as real life examples to make sense of these physical concepts. Students were using graphs to quantitatively describe main characteristics of waves like period, frequency, and amplitude, but also to figure out the phase difference between two distinct waves.

本周,在Rezart老師11年級的物理課堂上,學生們正在研究周期性現象和波。他們使用視覺表現模型以及現實生活中的例子來理解這些物理概念。學生們使用圖形來定量描述波的主要特徵,如周期、頻率和振幅,但也計算出兩個不同的波之間的相位差。
YEAR 12
With the exhibition right around the corner Y12 students in Mr Gabriel’s Art class have been busy this week finishing their artworks. Peter’s large oil painting of the Hong Kong skyline is inspired by Monet and uses atmospheric perspective and impasto technique to bring this impressionist approach into contemporary times. David’s work is at the opposite side of the spectrum as he creates minimalist mono chromatic paintings whose textures capture the light revealing the expressive brush work, while his sculptures inspired by Takashi Murakami, Donald Judd and Yayoi Kusama explore reflection, structure and how we envision ourselves and our futures within and through culture and cultural expectations.

隨著可視藝術畢業展覽的臨近,在Gabriel老師的藝術課上,12年級的畢業生們本周一直在忙於完成他們的藝術作品。Peter的大型油畫作品 《香港天際線》的靈感來自莫奈,他用大氣的視角和厚塗的顏料表現技術將印象派的手法融入到了當代的美術作品當中。David的作品名為《光譜的對立面》,他創作了極簡主義的單色繪畫,並且利用其紋理來捕捉光源,這將會很好地展示出他富有表現力的創造。而他擺放的雕塑,靈感來自於Takashi Murakami, Donald Judd 和Yayoi Kusama的啟發,這個作品前後經歷了探索、反思、構建的過程,並且表達了我們應該如何通過文化和文化期望來預想自己和表現未來。

Another week lies confined to the scrapheap of history, filled with a plexus of memories, some joyful, some challenging. We would do well to remember Marcus Aurelius』 exhortation that we have power over our minds, not outside events and, once we realise this, we find courage to deal with any adversity.
回首過去的一周,有回憶、有喜悅、有挑戰。我們應記住Marcus Aurelius的勸誡:我們可以控制自己的思想,而非受外界事物控制,一旦我們意識到這點,我們有勇氣應對任何事情。
This last week has been taken up with the preparation for and the intense enjoyment of UNESCO MUN Conference hosted by UISZ this past weekend. Dragon House was filled to capacity as our boarders embraced the Munning experience. Apart from this, it’s been business as usual for the Dragonites: IDUs, PPs, mock exam prep, and the full range of afternoon and evening activities.
上周末增城譽德萊國際學校舉辦了香港教科文組織模擬聯合國會議,師生們為此進行了大量的前期準備工作。參與這次活動的師生們都非常投入與享受。龍之屋學生宿舍也因此變得異常熱鬧,我校的寄宿生們都沉浸在思維激烈碰撞的辯論海洋中。除此之外,龍之屋學生宿舍一切如常:住宿生們都分別忙於跨學科項目作業、個人項目作業、模擬考試的準備,以及參加了下午和晚上的豐富課外活動。
It remains for me to wish all our boarding families a very happy and safe new year’s holiday as we welcome the Year of the Rat and we look forward to welcoming you all back to Dragon House on Sunday 02 February after 18:00.

We hope students and parents have an enjoyable Chinese New Year celebration - while we also urge DP students to work independently over the holiday to catch up on research, revision and project work that needs to be completed - as the clock ticks down towards the end of the academic year.
