Week 39丨UISZ Community Summary

2021-02-21 UISZ

Message from Mr Holt

『So comes snow after fire, and even dragons have their endings.』 – JRR Tolkien

So, we are in the last week of the academic and boarding year. The end is nigh after the challenges and vagaries of covid. Not so much that it is the end, but that we can say unequivocally and joyfully that it is an ending. We made it!

Exams behind, final celebration to the fore – the main event of the year – which we as a boarding community always perform with aplomb and enthusiasm. And this year has been no exception.

Wednesday saw the presentation of the major boarding awards for the year at the EoY Ceremony. Our congratulations to the following boarders:

Head of Boarding Award: Max (Y10)

Primary Inspired Awards: Tracy (Y3) and Kai (Y3)

Secondary Inspired Awards: Kayli (Y10) and Edison (Y8)

But now I turn to another big E: Ending. I write this, my last epistle, with a heavy lightness; happy for the time I』ve had at UISZ, but sad it is a swansong, an ending for some.

As we bid farewell to the 2019/20 academic and boarding year, we also bid adieu to boarders and boarding staff departing the community. On that community’s behalf, I record my best wishes and thanks to those staff leaving for pastures anew. Mr Robert, Ms Fiona, Ms Paola and Ms Melita, take a bow for your herculean efforts in Dragon House over the years.

Once a dragon always a dragon.

To those of you – staff, students and parents – remaining, I hand the torch of inspiration. Hold on to it boldly with creativity, compassion and authenticity. Allow its light to shine as a beacon of hope. To those leaving, carry the same torch with justice, equanimity and courage to illuminate the darkness for others.

It remains for me to thank you for all for your support of me, and for the Dragonites, and to wish you all safety, happiness and peace in your future endeavours.
